22wmr notes

My first outing last night with new 22 wmr and i just wonderered if someone could shed some light on a finding. I've been shooting 22 lr for 15 years now so Im used to different reactions from rabbits on impact. Using 40 grn jacketed hollow points on 3 rabbits at 110,105 and 55 yards I had clean engine room kills but on pick up all 3 were as if gasping from the mouth; no heartbeat or breathing only this, I've never seen this before, was it just a nervous reaction from the extra velocity?
