shotgun sam
Can someone do a Quickload calculation for ppu 6.5*51 arisaka jap with 139 grain ppu bullet and using vectan 3000 powder. I was also told that vectan 3000 is similar to r12 powder can anyone confirm that. Thanks Sam
henryo
I don't have that powder unfortunately, but by comparing with powders of a similar burn rate I think it might be a bit too fast. http://www.lhs-germany.de/uploads/media/65_x_50_mm_Arisaka_01.pdf
Laurie
Hmmmm ... Tu3000 equiavalent to R12 powder? Is that Hercules Reloder 12? If so, it was withdrawn over 10 years ago and doesn't figure in most burning rate charts. I'd have said Tu3000 is too fast burning to be ideal in any 6.5 with a 139gn bullet, even a small case example like the Arisaka. QuickLOAD doesn't have the Vectan Tu powders in its propellant tables, at least my version doesn't. The nearest powder to Tu3000 in burning rate charts is H4895 and QL says ~29.5gn is maximum with the 139gn PPU FMJ at the standard industry COAL. Doing a QuickLOAD Charge Table Run doesn't produce any powder faster burning than H4350 that meets the program's criteria for an efficient and safe load. Hornady lists the cartridge in its manuals. The 7th edition lists 34.0gn IMR-4064, 34.7gn H4895, 39.2gn IMR-4350, and 40.7gn H4831 as maximum loads that gave the military load's 2,600 fps with Hornady 140gn bullets in a 32-inch barrel Type 38 service rifle. I'd suggest something in the 4350 / 4831 class. If you can't get the IMR/H versions, try Lovex SO70, Viht N150, or better still N160. QuickLOAD says 32.0gn N150 produces a maximum pressure just under the very low CIP allowed PMax value of only 42,000 psi and gives 2,481 fps in a 32-inch barrel. There is 100% charge burn. I'd suggest using that powder and starting around 29, 30gn and working up from there.
