Taxidermy and owls

Recommended Posts

Today whilst mooching about I came across a mint condition tawny owl.

It was unfortunately definetly dead. The animal had no obvious damage and was well away from roads etc so cause of death unknown.

Once you have seen a few dead things you get an idea of how recent it was. The eye condition was perfect no greying so it was very fresh.

I have brought it home and put it in the freezer  had to tell the wife just in case she served me it up

Anybody know of a good taxidermist and rough cost, seems such a waste not to do something with it.

Would post a pic if I knew how but can't be bothered to faff about. Could email them if somebody wants to do the deed.

I can find the name of one over Yorkshire way may take me a couple of days.

Make sure the poly bag is airtight or it will freeze burn and be no good, also notify your local police wildlife officer you have picked up a road kill and are having it mounted, protects you and the taxidermist, then its not a problem if you tell up front as its a protected bird.

Thanks redfox if you could do that, post or pm me.

One of the reasons for the post was to clarify the legalities so will do that.

Good point about the freezer burn, just been out and double bagged it.
