Would you take the mount's off and re-fit using loctite or similer or leave and attach scope??? regard's barnacle As it's so easy to do,I'd be inclined to fit a good scope and see how it all shoots first.If it's ok,it's ok! If it isn't,then you are off on a diagnosis/elimination of error,which might be the mounts,or something else,especially on a 25 year old rifle. Now to fit a scope and start the one shot then clean to condition the barrel just going to forrest bore foam before shooting at least then i know it's clean before i put a bullet through the barrel.
