huntsman
Just wondering if anyone out there has ever used Hornady SXSP, they are a flat based soft point. I got a box of 6mm 70 gr's from a friend. Do they expand very quickly like the V-Max's ? Are they any good? They seem to be discontinued and didn't see them listed on their web site. Thanks Dave
Jinks
Hi Dave, I tried them in 50 grain through my 22-250, did a few tests comparing them to 50 grain V-Max, did not seem as destructive as the V-Max but were very accurate. Cheers, Jinks

Guest 308Panther
Thanks Jinks , Could they be to used for deer (RULES AND REGULATIONS ASIDE) or would they break up too quickly causing only surface damage. Dave Hi Dave, I have a Hornady Catalog from 2004. In the Traditional Varmint Section. It shows a .22Cal SPSX in 50gr and 55gr bullets. But No 6mm bullets in that config or style For 6mm it only shows 70grSP,75grHP,87grBTHP, In the Traditional Hunting section, 6mm's in 87grSP,100grSP Interlock,100grBTSP Interlock,100grRN Interlock Then there is the SST,V Max, A Max. Is there an Item Number on the box? I may be able to track it down in the catalog that way. Let me know. 308Panther
huntsman
Yes, the box says " 6mm cal, 70gr .243, SXSP item no. 2415 . But don't waste too much time as they might be ancient. Thanks Dave.
Guest 308Panther
Hi Dave, Took another look, didnt see that number listed. Figured the way things change as fast as they do the '04 catalog was ancient as well. ,Oh well. Best of Luck 308Panther
Redfox
SXSP stands for super explosive soft point why on earth would you want to shoot at a deer with a varmint bullet? Redfox
huntsman
Redfox Thank you for that, and you can rest assured that they won't be used on deer now that I know this . Just wasn't sure what they were for . I milled the side off one today and the copper jacket is very thin even less than a Vmax. So for foxes only. Redfox
Dave They would be worth trying on charlie, just keep velocity down to about 3300 as they tend to blow up after that. Redfox
