  1. Sorry, didn’t want to sound argumentative. The point I was making was simply the assertion one must open an ‘approved range’ or ‘range’ to allow target shooting is not correct as this has no definition in law. There are no official bodies that will certify a ‘range’ anymore as the NRA have also stopped. They may provide guidance if you push, but will not certify any piece of land.

Insurance is another matter, but having recently spoken to several, they do not ask for any form of certification. Again, others may ask but I haven’t spoken to any that do. Yes, should the worst happen they may try and argue negligence invalidating the policy, but that’s a very high threshold - so as with all policies, the devil is in the detail (I.E. the terms and conditions). In fact, the NRA have confirmed to me that my personal NRA cover through membership covers me for shooting targets over land - which I asked for specifically for, what I believe the OP was asking for, for PRS shooting at farms etc.

I have been running PRS matches at a local farm, and both the relevant police force and the NRA have confirmed all is well in doing so - and under our club insurance through the NRA - so long as participants have target conditions based on the membership of a HO approved club.

  2. Apologies but there is a bit of misinformation here. There is no legal definition of a ‘range’. It is up to the landowner/operator to determine if safe to use, and then, there must be insurance (which can be commercial for all users or individual) in the case of any loss.

This has been confirmed to me by my FEO, who had guidance from the Home Office, and is confirmed in HO Circular 031/2006 (available at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/firearms) following the refusal of both the MoD and NRA to certify ‘ranges’.

The position is therefore that you need target conditions (as 100 rounds at steels is hardly “zeroing or practice” for quarry) on land that is deemed safe by the operator, complies with any planning law (which often the 28 day rule applies) and you (as the FAC holder) are content there is adequate insurance in place for the activity (you or the ground).

Thank you for your kind words about the RCO team.  We do our best.  I can't claim any personal credit though because I've hardly done anyhting this year for various reasons but hopefully, that will change as my summer work season comes to a close.

Adam is a star, he really is.  He's a real mover and shaker in the village community too.  He's just one of those people who makes things happen.  Don't tell him I said that though - we'll never get his head through the door.  I've known him for a long time - I'm not quite in the same village as he is but the village pub, when it was open at least, was the only one I could walk to and it's a short crawl from his door.

I've had a number of RR and Discoverys over the years but that was mostly in the days when I was taking the corporate shilling and someone else was picking up the maintenance bills 🙂  I run my own small business now and sold olf my 2016 RR Sport earlier this year so my business fleet with be the Defender and a new Transit Custom Trail which is, apparently, being delivered tomorrow.

I won't be there on Saturday I'm afraid.  I'm heading up to Callow End, attending a small blues festival for the weekend.  It will be my first music festival in almost two years and I am really looking forward to it.

Ha ha - caught the positive comments and feedback!

Genuinely thank you all gents for the positive words. We (well, me) are still getting used to the faff of dealing with the MoD/Landmarc, and coupled with the whole 'rona situation, its been a little hit and miss this year - but next year we should be well prepared! As others have said, its a time consuming task organising bookings, and even more so even once confirmed organising RO's, safety personnel and members - but totally worth it.

I think it may also be worth me reaching out to the FCSA so see if we can buddy up for bookings in the South, West and Wales to mutually benefit both clubs. I personally dont see it as any form of competition - and the more shoots we can offer our members the better!

I have been a member of ODRC since the good days. The 'nice' man was ousted in a frankly disgusting manner and his replacement was probably the author of the unhelpful rude reply you got. He was a deeply troubled individual who was very unpleasant to many people and put a lot of noses out of joint. He is no longer at the helm and sadly the club is now rudderless, but is at least no longer running into rocks and heading for a terminally big one. That said if the club can't recruit a friendly and competent person to take on the onerous duties of membership secretary and general secretary it is likely to fold, which would be a great shame as it was a friendly and fun club to be a member of.

I am now a probationary member of Monmouth and District Rifle Club which is booking military ranges including Sennybridge, Warminster and Rogiet Moor. They also have a 100yard indoor range which is great for load development. It is a very friendly club and I have enjoyed all my experiences with them.

I did join the NRA and have shot on Stickledown, Bisley at 1000yards using the electronic targets - it was awesome and I will be back next week! I don't need to be a member of any club to shoot there, though having a SCC issued by a club is good as I believe that the NRA charge like a wounded rhino for the pleasure of testing and issuing one! Once my ODRC ones expires I believe that MDRC will issue one for me :)

Thanks Ralph! And yep, I can organise your new SCC as soon as its needed (normally takes 72 hours from ordering to at your door).

  6. Full info available at https://www.opticswarehouse.co.uk/vortex-golden-eagle-hd-15-60x52-scr-1-18-moa-rifle-scope

Scope has some minor consmetic marks, mainly to the removable lens caps, which i have tried to show in the enclosed photos. It still functions flawlessly.

If it goes for the asking price, i'll even chuck in both the Vortex bubble level and the Burris XTR rings - which still have their original packaging and all inserts for variable cant adjustment.

    £1,100 ONO

  7. As I didn't have much luck selling it all as a package, am listing my .308 TAC a1 seperately. Same rifle as in the enclosed pics, but without the extras (scope, mounts, bipod, bag, etc).

Tikka t3X TAC a1 .308 with 24” barrel and all original accessories including muzzle brake and tools.

I've put about 2,000 rounds through it (which isnt much for a .308) and it has been very well looked after and cleaned after every use.

If your looking at this, then you probably know everything needed, but do let me know if any questions.

£1450 ONO, inc RFD transfer if needed

Other items in the pics also up for sale seperately - make me an offer!

  8. For sale is my beloved TAC a1 in .308 flavour, along with all the bits in the enclosed photos. Only selling as the rifle now gets very little use and the cash is needed for a stalking rifle. The set up includes:

    -          Tikka t3X TAC a1 .308 with 24” barrel and all original accessories including muzzle brake and tools

    -          Vortex Golden Eagle 15-60x52 ECR-1 1/8 MOA scope

    -          Burris XTR Signature rings, with box and all inserts for adjustable cant

    -          UTG super slim 20 MOA rail

    -          Harris 6-9” bipod and m-lok adapter

    -          AIM 60 drag bag

    -          100 Lapua small primer .308 brass

    -          Approx. 250 .308 projectiles

The rifle itself is in immaculate condition and has had approximately 2,000 rounds through it – so plenty of life left! The scope has some minor cosmetic marks to the front and rear caps, but performance is not affected at all – and with it being a Vortex it will come with the no quibble lifetime warranty. With the 20 MOA rail and adjustable rings (currently set up with 35 MOA cant), this set up is more than capable of 1000m+.

To buy this set up all new you would be looking at approaching £4,000 but im looking for £3,000 ONO.

I am not interested in selling in bits.

Do give me a shout if you want any more photos or information. Also happy to RFD transfer at my expense.

  9. For those interested, many other clubs have MoD licences to book their ranges. It was due to the shenanigans with ODRC I organised my club to have one. We now have semi regular bookings at Rogiet, Sennybridge, Warminster etc - largely focused in Wales and SW as we’re based in Monmouth (Monmouth & District Rifle Club).

We’re still getting used to the system, so it’s a little sporadic - but hope to have at least one shoot a month from March - September (and possibly winter depending on numbers).

    I purchased the 4-20x50,

it’s an excellent scope, I had a huge amount of support from John with import and export. They are very helpful when you loose zero stop screws etc and just send them out. You will have to pay customs fees somehow.

I genuinely felt that they wanted you to be happy with the product.

    I would consider buying another.

    Thanks!

Which postage option did you pick and how did you pay customs?

Very keen to purchase, but want to know if will be stung for an extra 24.2% when it gets here!

  11. I am contemplating ordering the above scope as the reviews seem excellent, especially for the price.

    https://tractoptics.com/riflescopes/toric-uhd-4-5-30x56-34mm-ffp-mrad-elr-extreme-long-range-rifle-scope

Im wondering if any of you knowledgable lot have any experience with this particular scope? Those that do, what would you compare it to and is there anything you would recommend instead at a similar price point?

Im also curious for those who have ordered from Tract how it went? I hear their customer service is superb, but I’ve had mixed messages from both them (via their online chat function) and on some FB forums regarding whether the much higher UPS postage includes all relevant VAT, duties etc or not. I calculate this should add about £350ish to the price, but even the top end postage option is only just over $200USD. Anyone know specifically? Or is it just pot luck if Customs notice?

    Cheers all!

  12. Looking to sell the above.

Full specs can be found at https://vortexoptics.com/vortex-golden-eagle-hd.html?vortex_reticle=849.

It has the 'simple' SCR-1 reticle, and is ideal for long range given the ridiculous magnification range! Only getting rid of due to wanting to take part in PRS shooting so prefer something FFP with a more suited reticle.

Scope is in overall good condition, with a few marks to the screw on scope covers and turrets (can be seen in the photos - barely noticeable on the turrets but mentioned for full disclosure). These are purely cosmetic and scope functions perfectly!

Looking for sensible offers or swap/PX for something matching requirements above.

    Happy to answer any questions!

I am based on the Glos/Monmouthshire border, so preferably collection but can arrange postage at buyers expense.

  13. I would also recommend ODRC. A great bunch and regular shoots at Warminster and others (when MoD don’t cancel!), plus can join the 50 cal boys and girls when you want.

I had a FAC and didn’t have to do any ‘probationary’ period, and obtained my SCC through them rather than my local club. Only probationers I know at the club haven’t yet got their FAC!
