  1. 😆 every time I clean my rifle I get this terrible dry throat.....
  2. AICS chassis for remington 700 short action. Non folder. In good condition. Comes with KRG bolt knob to match skins and 2 clash hooks for sling. £450 insured post Versapod bipod also available separately if needed. (rifle, scope, sling, cans of wd40/ wall sockets and everything else in the photo are not included. 😁)
  3. Good to hear Ewen. Does that still spit out lighter bullets effectively?
  4. I have a factory remington SPS varmint with 1:9125 twist 24” barrel. It shoots 105 amax well with N165 at just under 2900 FPS. There is an itch I have to put a faster twist shorter barrel on it. Make it a bit lighter and a bit pointier for deer and vermin, plus able to lob out successfully to longer range targets. Would like to stick with 105Amax but stay versatile enough for 87g and 58gr vmax. Maybe even heavier dtac’s. Would fast twist preclude the lighter bullets? Would shorter (18-20”) barrel be too slow for heavies, not just for deer legality but also range use? Is the itch worth the scratch?
  5. A favourite rifle of mine is a Varberger in 7x57. I’ve a hankering to restock this in a synthetic stock. Anyone done this/ any thoughts about potential donor stocks?

  8. That’s clear Al thanks for the info. I’ve been reloading for 6 years and never come across anyone using an incorrect sizing die deliberately, hence the question. No intention on my part to do this, unless several well experienced people were telling me it was some dark art of reloading I had yet to discover. Always caution first for me, but if I come across something I don’t understand I’ll ask. likely something lost in translation!
  9. Thanks Al - great information. groups from left to right in centre of photo at 44.6, 44.9 and 45.2. Was 5 degrees warmer, full sun and wind around 10mph r-l. Five shot groups, was struggling to get comfy in the sun (unusual in Scotland....) and first shot from cold clean bore at 44.6 is marked at 12 o’clock above other 4. Circles are 1”
  10. Cheers Pete, Good to know you think people who want to learn are daft. Do you get asked many questions by others less magnificent than you?
  11. Discussing with another who had been recommended to neck size 243 with 220 swift Lyman M die. Seemed a bad idea but thought I’d see if I was missing something!
  12. Maybe a daft question, but if I was to use a Smaller neck sizer for my fired brass Eg a .223”, so giving me 20thou smaller diameter. Would this be a bad thing?
  13. Am sorted with a chrono so that’s the next bit of tinkering to do. tried 44.6/44.9/50.2 and the groups opened up at 50.2. looks like sweet spot is around 44.6-44.9. Thinking of using 44.6 and varying the seating depth at that load, see how I get on. Will put some over the chrono to see what that says.
  14. 145gr speer hotcor and N150 is my go-to hunting load. I think the 162 amax will let me extract a bit more out of the rifle, but time will tell I guess!
  15. Would really like to hear anyone’s experience of pushing distance (600m +) with this fine cartridge. I’ve a hankering to see what I can do with 162 amax in a good quality, modern actioned sporter (it’s a Varberger aka kongsberg/lakelander) JS
