  1. As per title, I have two Lilja made match bbl blanks in .338 cal, 1:10", and for 32" finished length. The contour is suitable for barrel nut installation to receivers up to 1.12" thread. 28.3mm diameter for 200mm straight, then taper to 24mm at the muzzle. 

    Imported through SSD Holland and marked as such. Original intention was for a barrel block, but I ended up going a different route.

    Paid 880eur a piece, will sell for 460eur (400gbp) per piece, plus shipping. Take both and I pay the shipping.

     

     

  2. As the topic says, has anybody rebarreled a quadlock the barrel-nut way?

    My (theoretical) gripe is loosing the spigot interface. Longer threading would mean the barrel tenon passing free through that approx 5mm area before engaging with the nut threads. Shouldn´t be a safety issue as it´s basically the same result as with many loose fitting recoil lugs. But I believe that spigot is there for a reason - strength? Repeatability? Temperature change stability?

    If anybody has ventured that way before, I would be grateful for your experience - and results on targets.

  3. As a quick, comparative update; I moved from salt bath to induction earlier this year.

    I used salt bath for good 2 years for several calibers from 6Br up to 338improved, in total close to 6000 reloads/shots fired. Had convincing results with salt-bath, both from target results and ES/SD measured at different times of season with more and more loadings on the cases. If my salt-bath annealed cases failed, it was by loosening primer pockets, never a neck split. I salt-bath-annealed brass for ackley fireforming as well and lost none in the processing of 200+ 338LM cases.

    The recordkeeping gives a base of comparison for the induction results now and all I can say is - they are the same. While the only process changed in the reloading cycle was the switch from salt batch to induction (at the same point of the reloading cycle), both the target results of proven loads and measured velocities remain the same. For me, that additionally confirms that the salt works just fine. 

    The advantage of the induction is mostly time saving, as there is no prep/cleanup, you can switch between calibers/case sizes immediately and the time per case is cut approximately in half as well.

  4. Meh, unless you´re wildcatting to something like 22-243 it has no sense or value whatsoever. 

    Keep in mind there is a limit to brass springback, which in turn means a limit to neck tension as we use to refer to it. This is roughly up to 3 thou on std calibers, maybe 4-5 thou on 338 and bigger. Anything more you´re just uselessly moving brass to another diameter. Conversely to that, if the brass were able to springback more, it would not be possible for reloaders to neck-up or down in general as the brass would always just spring back to what you started with. But that doesn´t happen. 

    All that happens when you size the neck down any further is that the bullet has to act as an expander. Depending how far under diameter you go, it may not seat at all and crush the shoulder, seat crooked etc. However, if you do manage to seat it, it will not be held any firmly than with regularly sized brass. If you really need to increase the force holding the bullet in place, crimp it.

  5. Ah, I see the confusion, my bad. It is an alumunium forend that I´d like to add the bridge to; however it is a non-standard one, made to order. I´m pondering my options what of the existing chassis accessories comes close enough to modify and fit before I have a bespoke (expensive) unit made.

  6. Tried, they can provide that only along their own chamber reamers. Reason is there is many AI variants already, all are 40°, but the shoulder diameter & body taper differs. 

    Lesson learned, should not have bought one without the other. Still, having at least a best-guess guideline would save me some considerable cash and wasted time :(

  7. Wouldn´t ask if I could do that, would I :) I have reamers for this project done by a local tooling shop. It´s a 338AI and I need to provide them with the prints. Have the chamber print actually, and now need to "adjust appropriately" for the resize reamer, just as you say. Think I´ll take 0.002 off the  body width and see.

  8. Say I have a chamber reamer print and would like to have a FS die made along with the barrel, without going through "fire some, send them to us and wait for half a year". The neck is easy, treat it as a bushing choice, but I cannot find any guidance regarding the body. What should be the dimensional change there, or in other words - how much smaller the die reamer should be? Is 1-2 thou of body diameter under the chamber size too much or too litle, considering some springback in the brass?

  9. I actually have the habit of refilling the bucket (LEM machine) with the water and a spoonful of dishwasher after every cycle. That way, next time I´m back from the range I just deprime the cases and throw them right in again.

  10. I just wish they would do coding for more scales. Like Ohaus Pioneer series, for example. PA203 is direct counterpart in all technical parametres to the AD120, resolution, linearity, responsiveness... But ADs were never really the thing in EU, while I and many others already have an Ohaus on the bench. Can´t bring myself to justify a new scale now just because of compatibility. Stuck with the Omega trickler for now.
