On a stalking rifle i look for weight, sound reduction and then price.
On a varmint/high volume of fire rifle i go for sound reduction, price then weight.

Using a mod on a rimfire and centrefire is usually discouraged on account of unburnt rimfire powder in the mod carrying the risk of been ignited when used on the centrefire.Never experienced it myself but have read threads warning about this.

There's a big difference in my book between someone walking round with a gun taking a few rabbits and the odd muntjac or pheasant for the pot, and industrial scale slaughter by the lowlife who simply enjoy killing and are willing to pay in order to do so, "legally" or otherwise.
Rabbits, unlike mountain hares, are in the same league as grey squirrels, not a native species. Introduced during the Roman occupation, afaik.
As for the mountain hares: Protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981. Priority Species under the UK Post-2010 Biodiversity Framework.

Ive set the rabbit boxes ,i expect to take between 200 and 300 rabbits tomorrow. This at the request of the farmers who need the grass .Wholesale slaughter Pete? Does it matter that i enjoy doing this or not? Mountain hare or the humble rabbit, when the numbers reach a level where you can kill these numbers this usually tells you that you should maybe think about lessening the numbers.

Actually, I don't give a s**t what the acreage was, whether or not they carry ticks, or are destined to end up on some restaurant menu.
I see a heap of dead hares, killed simply because they're presence was seen as an inconvenience to a money making enterprise. .
The illegal killing of raptors on grouse moors is another example.

Serious question Pete,if these were rabbits would you be as outraged?

Is the big rabbit classed as vermin?
Pete
Legally classed as game, but how their numbers are controlled depends on the area,in wensleydale theyre not very common so arnt shot like the rabbit;which are in plague like numbers again. In other areas ive worked where the hare was numerous their numbers were controlled to keep visits from the 'caravan club' to a minimum so they were treated as 'vermin' .All depends on the ammount of hares in the area and the impact they have as to how theyre classified by the individual.

+1 for the lanolin and alcohol.Used lee and rcbs in the past but the above works much better for me.

Is this the one i swapped you for the broken nightforce nxs?
If it is its 35mm tube and it went back to ior to get a fault repaired, not just a full service.something you should have tried doing with the scope you swapped for it.
Hope this helps.

I rang the SGC yesterday and explained the problem, they were very helpful and told me to post it to them and theyd sort it.So hopefully things will work out ok.
Thanks for all your advice.

I sent mine back through SGC and it took around 6weeks. The objective lens was damaged and not covered through the warranty, but the charge was reasonable and well worth it. They also replaced the turrets FOC.
SGC will deal with any issues regarding import. I’d heard some less than positive reviews about them, but in this case I found them hard to fault.
I think something internally has given up so hopefully it will be covered by the warranty.Time will tell though.

Hi Paul,
I had a problem with an NXS I bought off here.....wouldn't hold more than a 4" group at 100yds.
Sent it via my RFD to SGC who checked it and said they had shot it and agreed it would only hold a 4" group but thought that was acceptable !!
A brief discussion between me/RFD/SGC and they sent it back to USA.......I had no receipt/proof of purchase, etc .
About 4 weeks later it returned from Nightforce looking like new (refurbished....not a new scope but hard to tell the difference) with a report saying they could find nothing wrong the scope (this is quite common apparently as Nightforce scopes are NEVER faulty). Once fitted and test fired, suddenly the outfit now shoots 1/2" groups at 100yds.
Send it back to NF they will sort it for sure 👍👍
Regards, Rob.
Thats encouraging.I will be sending it to nightforce for certain.

I sent a s/h Nightforce back to Nightforce in America for repair. Turned it around fairly quickly and it came back looking like new. It then took me weeks to get it from Customs - without having to pay VAT and import duty. Nightmare of an outfit to deal with! Eventually I got professional help (thanks Toni) and the scope was released to me.
Its encouraging that you got a good conclusion eventually.Could i ask whether you sent it back via a distributer or on your own?
If you sent it back yourself, did you contact nightforce first?

What's wrong with it?
It wont track reliably. If you put on 4 clicks at 100 yards it may move 6 inch up and 2 inch right. It will hold a group though. However if i then move 4 clicks down it will move randomly.Almost like each click has a random value.

I believe they have an unlimited warranty.I will give SGC a bell on monday.

I swapped scopes with a chap and it soon became obvious why he wanted to swap.Anyhow the scope ive been lumbered with,an nxs, needs to go back for warranty work.Anyone had any experience doing this bearing in mind i have no receipt. Thanks in advance.

I would agree with whats been said about the niggleoh, works ok when side mounted but i found the rifle slopped about when mounted on the underside of the stock.Went with the z-aim.Much more secure in my experience.I have a niggleoh which i could let you have a lend of if you like.If you want to keep it i will happily sell it to you for the price of a z aim.

Its a 1 in 9 walther but 1 in 12 would be fine.

The sierra 63 grain smp is effective on roe, very easy to tune a load for too.I think the 223,if you are aware of its range limitations ,has a place in a stalkers cabinet, not an open hill caliber for sure, but for close range, forestry use its adequate.

I had cause to send one back for repair.Emails to ior went unanswered but opticswarehouse sorted everything even though it was originally bought from Border .Scope was sent back repaired and serviced so i was happy with the service.Took a month i seem to recall.

I have the factory hs stock on a cz and while it is a nice stock it is also very short. It certainly suits some types of shooting positions better than others. I'm sure you've handled one but if you havnt it might be a good idea to have a look at one before parting with 500 quid.

I have shot a cz 22wmr for nearly 20 years, and to be honest wouldnt buy another. The ammunition is getting too pricey now ,and not many shops in this part of the country stock it.But saying that it is quite hard hitting out to 100 yards or maybe a little more,so long as the wind isnt blowing can be reasonably accurate .On a good day mine can hold an inch at 100 yards but any wind and its best to leave it at home.I run the hornady bt's in mine but the 40 grain hp's get the most out of the calibre ,the 30 grain loads really leave a lot to be desired at 100 yards. Also the last batches of hornady vmax i got had the same split neck problems of its 17 hmr cousin.Have shot fox out to around 100 yards and have been happy with the terminal effects though shot placement is critical and with any wind at all this becomes quite difficult to guarantee.Certainly, in my opinion, it kills fox size animals cleaner than the 17 hmr ,and i do have both, but as i,m sure you know there are better tools for the job.
