  1. Given the scope has 5mm clicks and the turret only turns ONCE when set up with the stop pin set correctly, do the math.

Still, Zeiss will sell plenty to armchair shooters and if i ever see one in the UK i will be interested to see how they have modified it to overcome problems we found. I'm booked to see zeiss at IWA and also a Uk press event at zeiss hq the following week so we shall see.

  2. Guess what happened when a HUGE world leading optical manufacturer designed a metric mildot high mag tactical scope suitable for pol/mil use and the birdy types saw it and went running to the big cheses............

It was 'altered' to try and recoup massive investment funds from a less demanding market with plenty of money that would buy a scope with a non military sounding spec that wouldn't upset the birdy types quite as much, the ones who really pay the bills.

Did going MOA really fool anybody?

30mm tube is outdated for pol/mil use anyway.

    Read between the lines guys

  3. A great idea done badly. I shot them in Denmark at the Zeiss fieldshoot last year and was dissaponted within seconds. Pointless 5mm clicks, limited travel and second focal plane only with liminted reticle capability. Its designed for hunters rather than shooters, those who want to count eylashes on roe deer at 125metres.

The 2.8-20 V8 was spectaculary good, the 35x.........vice versa.

  4. Had the pleasure of shooting a Mauser fitted with the lower powered model today.

It made my Schmidt look sick, just as I knew it would. The clarity of the lenses at all magnification was a joy to my tired eyes.

The elevation turret is large, you can easily see what its on, and the clicks are audible and very positive, but not too positive , like the schmidt.

Its smaller, and a lot lighter, and basically there is nothing to dislike. I was counting blades of grass and lumps of Lichen on rocks at 800 yards with it.

I will be having one for my AX.

I'm glad you liked it. I have shot it a lot in the last week and my only reql quibble is getting 'lost' on the windage dial at long range when you go beyond 9 MOA of wind which i did at 1000 metres.

  5. Just been reading some of the earlier links.

It looks to be a scope designed by people who think that between themselves they know EXACTLY what people want, but haven't actually asked anyone in the target market (in fact, I have trouble deciding what market it's actually targeted at - it's 'not quite right' for just about every application that springs to mind - presumably I'm missing something obvious!).

I was at the press briefing at IWA for its launch and I will say one word BD.....

    BINGO

  6. The round 180's shot fine out of my 1-12", 20" barrel but spire points only worked up to 150gr. 180 noslers were fun as ypu cpuld watch them flap around like dolphins on their way to the target and i saw one strike it full in sideways making a neat sideways hole but if you dont try them, who knows? Trail boss is very easy to use and i settled at 9.3gr for spme 150 flat nose bullets for 3/4" accuracy at 100 yards buy 180 round nose sierras worked equally well.

Like i said, expansion is doubtfull and test 'bulk' targets tended to be cleanly holed but it was all just experimental fun. I imagine these want a very definate backstop as they will ricochet like a pebble but all i did was test them in front of a large sandtrap under a rockface so fairly definate no go beyond.

  7. No joy so far, looked through back issues from 2001, 02, 03 and 05 (although not complete), it made me weep to look at the prices of PM Scopes and powder......

Although very amusing to read the "this product can do no wrong" school of journalism that was Shooting Sports...

Wait till you see some of the terrible truth coming soon.

  8. I have had no problem shooting subsonics but bullet expansion at low speeds will always suffer with standard projectiles i suspect.

I have no need to use sub 308, it was just interesting to try them.

  9. Good one ewen. See you tomorrow by the way at oundle.

I will try getting in touch with Bruce Potts to see what he says although the advice so far given regarding trailboss looks very logical.
