Hello folks,

I`m new to the site but know a few of you from PS and MS.

My quandry is.... I have a CZ 550 Lux in .270, ok not the most precise rifle in the world, but it does its job very well.But.. When zeroing the barrel gets very hot and it rubs against the fore end, its not a floating barrel. I can get decent groups until it begins to get hot, then it starts to throw out.

What do I need to do?

New stock?

Bed it?

Make it free floating?

I`m on a budget and fairly strapped for time as well.

Advice very welcome,

Thanks in advance

GJB

ps, thanks to Smeagle for telling me to use the site instead of just looking.

If you're on a budget and wanted to try something on your own, you could first try releiving the barrel channel at the point the barrel rubs. Fairly easy to do, find a wood dowel or pvc conduit that is just about the size of the barrel channel, wrap some sandpaper or emery cloth around the dowel, and work it up and down the barrel channel until you have opened it enough to gain a bit of clearance between the barrel. Takes a little bit of elbow grease, but pretty simple to do.

Next thing to try, if that doesn't help, would be to have the barreled action pillar bedded, where it could be possible to centre in the barrel channel.

I did a CZ 550 in 6.5x55 which had the same problem last year.

Opening up the barrel channel did the trick, where in the country are you?
