sandtrap
Fitted a new 15" hand gaurd and the barrel nut is the type with cut outs for a gas tube and the hand gaurd has slots to match up . Made up to 42nm (30ftlbs) to line up the slots . I think 30ftlbs is to low but feel that if I torque until the next slot lines up then torque could be high .. I think 80ftlbs is the absolute max that should be applyed So the question , is 30ftlbs enough ? I suppose I just need to shoot and see if it's ok ? Tenex
I believe the torque for that particular guard is @ 35ft lbs
sandtrap
It does say 30-60ftlbs .. But 30 felt low when I was making up
bradders
You're worrying too much about nothing. Tighten ut up to where you feel it is tight enough to stay on. Don't worry about Torque specs just tighten it up to where the grooves/holes line up and be done. If it's too hard to get round to the next slot then use copper grease on the threads. You'd be surprised how much you can hang off the wrench on a AR upper receiver
