  1. Hi Ian. I suppose it begs the question , Why hasn't a manufacturer made the 22 BR a commercial calibre if they are superior.

Personally I don't think it would make much of a dint in the 22.250 sales

Look at its bigger brother , the 6 BR , Despite producing factory ammunition and some factory rifles. ....

It only has a tiny following compared to the vastly more popular 243 . Despite the extra powder / recoil and promise of inherent accuracy . The 6 Br hasn't prised most 243 shooters away from their trusty rifles.. Why .. because you don't shoot groups on Deer , therefore measuring group sizes in 0.1 's has very little relevance to hunters.

Same principal goes for Fox shooters and vermin control, A standard 22.250 factory rifle can produce 0.5 MOA.groups at 400 yrds. Therefore easily sufficient accuracy for any vermin and very little would be gained for the extra cost and faffing with

As far as recoil - I have just plugged some rough figures in to a recoil calculator

The 22.250 produces 6.1 ft lbs of recoil ( 75 grn Amax @ 3300 fps)

The 22 BR produces 5.7 ft lbs of recoil ( 75 grn Amax @ 3300 fps

There is actually less in terms of recoil between a 223 and a 222 ....E.G Sweet FA

22 BR is undoubtedly superb performer - but that doesn't make the 22.250 inferior just because it uses about 3 to 4 grns more per shot... Otherwise the same argument could be used for the 22 PPC against the 22 BR.

Your quite right it's choices , half of my customers don't load there own ammo so they will always go main stream

  2. Just watched the vids on his website, he still uses a rear spider but only to contain any rotational whip.

I've emailed him for some prices and as I'm in AZ in a couple of months time.......

As for range rods, I hate the bloody things, but with a system like this they may finally have merit

They are about 2400 $ well worth it

  3. SSG make the true bore system it works really well for lathes with a long head stock , I have one on my Haas TL1 lathe , I have had the lathe since 2009' and love it .

If you all look up SSG true bore on you tube it will bring up Nathan's work , a good fella with great ideas.

    Nice pics by the way

  4. Were I worked in the Breckland in Norfolk , I had 2000 acres of root crops so I could plink all summer , we cleared the Maggie's up quick . After the spring blitz I waited with baited breath for the Carrion crow fledge in Thetford forest which bordered my beat , they were Golden weeks shooting young crows . Best fun ever .

But my best shot I think that sticks to mind is a stoat at 190 yards poking his head and chest out of a rabbit hole .

  5. I burnt out three 220 swift barrels in the early to mid 90s when I was working on a wild bird shoot . they are fantastic for feathered vermin and the results are amazing to see first hand.

    makes for great fertilizer

probably the best chuckle you can have with a rifle.

I used an ex MOD light weight land rover with the half window taken off , full Cammo hide with wheels .

  6. I have a mate who shoots F class and stalks a lot , he has completed a lot of load testing and development with Vit 160 .

160 is showing very good results in speed low temp burn rate (better barrel life )and great spreads sub 10s

in a strait .284 he starts at 52 and goes up to 54.5 speeds are 2820 to 2890 this is slightly faster than H4831sc .

the barrel is a Krieger and shoots really flat elevations at 1000yrds .

we use 160 in =6mm284/25.284/6.5.284 and 284 strait , all give very good results in spreads speed and accuracy.
