I think my mates H20 capacity was 57.5.

This doesn’t seem to be correct. This is pretty much the 308 Win capacity.

As per GRT manual, I need to measure H2O at room temperature of fired (not sized) and length trimmed cases.

I will give RS 70 a try with a staring load at pmax -25%. RS 70 is reported to burn much more aggressive than calculated. So I need to be careful.

  2. Hi everyone,

so far, I have used N160 for my 284 Win with Lapua cases and Lapua 180 grs Scenar-L bullets. Now, I have tried to calculate two loads with new RS 70/76 powders using GRT and previously measured the water capacity of my fired cases. I am surprised by the results:

The slower RS 76 powder is burning faster?

    Somehow, nothing really makes sense:

The fired case size don’t fit to CIP specifications. I have measured P1 12.17 mm and P2 12.72 mm for the fired Lapua cases. This is significantly more than what the case should have according to CIP, especially at the shoulder. Also, the case volume with 68.60 grs H2O is significantly larger than what is noted in the GRT database.

Actually, it looks more like a 284 Shehane! Can you draw any conclusions from the data?

    Thank you
    Uwe

You have a older batch of 180 L's, you would be hard pushed to see the difference in meplat between them and Berger 180 Hybrids or VLD with the newer Scenar 180 L's.

I did a test with pointing the older 180 L's, with very pointed, normally pointed and not pointed. I shot them at 1000 yards and there wasn't any difference in the point of impact.

This is awesome news! I bought 1.700 Scenar-L last year. They are not pointed and have pretty ugly tips.

  4. Hi all,

does somebody use Peterson brass for .248 Win?

I‘ve measured 0.0160“ neck wall thickness.

Do you know how thick the Lapuas are in this calibre? Just to compare it.

Additional, I experience significant problems with running these used Peterson brass with my Wilson FL die. One brass did stuck in the die.

The only way of success is to use the wider Forster die with a lot of lube.

I get the following numbers for my fired Peterson brass (CIP):

    P1: 0.4995“

    P2: 0.4780“

    H2: 0.3200“

    Many thanks

    Uwe

  5. Hi all,

I have a 27,5“ (700 mm) Heym CPQ coated barrel and would like to shoot Lapua 180 gr Scenar-L put of my 7mm/.284 Win. The barrel has 8,7“ (220 mm) of twist.

I am currently using N160 and getting 2769 fps (844 m/s) wirh 52,1 grs. The powder is completely burnt in the barrel.

However, I also read many posts with recommendations for N165.
The powder doesn’t seem to burn completely - purely mathematically - inside my 27,5“ barrel.

What are your experiences with the two powders in shorter barrels?

    Best
    Uwe
