That’s the kind of thing I had in mind. I guess 308 is the classic calibre for a short deer rifle. Any other calibres that are worth a look? I reload for 6.5, is there a 6.5 chambering that works well when chopped?

Not 16" but Callum built me a BAT VRPIC/Kreiger 18" 6.5x47L and launches a 100gr Nosler BT at 3000fps with 39.5gr of Varget

Thanks for all the replies so far. Plenty of food for thought.

Andy at Ludicrous Lumens recommends the Meopta Meopro Optika 6.  Has anybody got any experience of them?

Yes I can confirm they are very good for daylight use and work brill with a rear NV add on.

That was at 80 -150 m . And believe me when I say that I have had to drop the resolution down so far I’m surprised it even worked .

Trust me when I say there is absolutely no comparison.

if you have the means save your money and buy the pro 😂

My original Helion XP50 will do all I need it to at the moment and will wait/hope that they do a LRF version of the Pro.

But am still in the market for a dedicated unit for rifle when lambing starts again so looking for views/comparisons.

    Bruce .

I owe you an apology. I was wrong ……..but if may use the excuse of saying my opinion at the time was based on my helion 2 XP50 in other words I didn’t know better , however I have today purchased a Helion XP50 pro and wow 😯 I knew within 1 min on turning it on was was going to be tendering an apology.
I now see exactly what you was referring too .

    OoToT

When you splash out on the Thermion 2 XP50 could you let us Know how the edge clarity is compared to the Helion 2 XP50 Pro is please ?

  5. Bought this recently but not found it suitable for my needs, it would have fitted my BAT VR Pic with just a bit more room needed in the recoil slot, so I assume it will fit any SA Rem clone, with minor fettling.
It’s a classic stock for a hunting rifle and for a sporter barrel. I believe it was Pillar Bedded by Norman Clark for a Rem 700 and is in McMillans flat green colour and top safety.

A few dinks and scratches but nothing of note. Looking for £400 posted but open to offers.

One of the reasons why I made the change to a wet rotary tumbler , no dust , just rise with clean water and dry in separate dedicated case drier . Job done 👍

Yep same here and with added bonus of cases cleaned inside as well.
