• were they painted to cover damage or just for personal preference?
• when painting them was the original surface abraded before paint was applied (I'd like to try restoring them to the original black)?

I'm looking to get a moderator for my AI and am considering the AI moderator and tactical brake combination. I know that their .308 version has the same bore diameter as their .338 and am wondering how much difference this will make to the sound reduction performance. AI decline to provide any figures on the measured sound reduction. 

Does anyone have first hand experince of the AI .308 moderator performance, is it effective and how does it compare with other makes such as the ASE SL7i or similar?
