  1. 223 77gr TMK’s are great. Had my Tikka 223 rebarreled in 1/8 twist, 25” barrel chambered specifically for this bullet.

53gr V-Max used to perform well out to 400 yards in my other 1/12 twist barrel. Flatter than the 77 TMK’s but lower BC and more wind drift. I’ve got a 204 Ruger shooting 39gr Blitz at 3,750fps if I want something ‘flat’ out to 250 yards.

High BC 77gr TMK’s are great. You can always dial for elevation. Gravity is consistent, it’s wind that’s variable!

Hi, Just got one on my ticket for vermin but struggling to find a Left hander ( I know freak),  6-9months wait on a tikka. CZ have stoped making the 527 in LH .204 all others don't want to play either. so looking like a donor action and re-barrel :(, struggling to find half decent load data for reloading! don't seem to find a powder in QL to get it above 3700+fps for the 32gns?

I'm getting just under 3,800fps with N530 so you should easily achieve that with 32gr Blitz.

If you're going for a rebarrel as stated above, get a tighter twist for the 39gr Blitz and go for 25" 👍🏻

Love my 204, interestingly also use 25.6gr of 530 under 39SBKs.

Mostly lives a night life with thermal on it, great fun on magpies etc in the summer though.

Strange! Shot them in my pals Howa Varmint at the weekend and it shot 1/4" in his, too.

  4. Who else shoots the 204 Ruger? I have one. A CZ527 Varmint. Love the rifle. Shoots really well with 39gr Blitz. Amazing on foxes and corvids. Had some really long shots on crows and rabbits. Must be the perfect varmint calibre.

Me too.... What sort of realistic range and speed are we looking at. It's been a while....

I reckon foxes out to 200 yards and rabbits out to 300+ in decent weather if you can get a good load developed and you don't mind dialing.

Great little vermin basher with 40gr V-Max. I'm getting just over 3,000fps with mine using 12.6gr Lil Gun.

Hi Elliot sorry I didn't reply sooner, I was out with the rifle ( another dog fox ) it really is a joy to shoot. Anyway the barrel is a varmint barrel at 26 inch's long.To be fair it may be a bit long for some folk but I am too old to walk  across the fields at night. I have several huts placed around the farm, one on wheels which can be towed to where it is needed using the quad bike and I let the foxes come to me.Using a thermal spotter and a pvs14 the system is very productive we didn't loose any lambs due to fox predation last year. This year I may look at a digital night vision for the 204 and keep the pvs 14 for the shorter 223 it would probably be handier.

    Regards  Malcolm

Well done, Malcolm. Top job! Sounds like you've got a great setup there.

26" barrel sounds just about perfect to me. I'm running a 25" barrel in the CZ527 204.

Love the look of that rifle though, Malcolm. I bet it's an absolute tack driver and should spit out 39gr Blitzkings at a good speed.

It's left me wondering what magic could be done to my CZ. Not sure they use them much for custom work, though? Be nice to get the action trued up, trigger polished, custom barrel and bedded into an adjustable stock.

sounds great. I am hoping to up my velocity to those, but with my 22" barrel I am going to try some RL10X and see if that helps. So far the best safe load I have is 3500fps with 28g RL15 with the 39g Blitzkings. Slightly over the book max, but no pressure signs or hard extraction. I was shooting at rocks at 250y yesterday and the 32 vmax I had made up some test loads with was doing 3760 fps and that was hitting the rocks and making a small puff of dust and a small impact noise, then with the first 39g Blitzking it hit with hugely more noise and destroyed to dust the rock it hit. It sounded massively more impact power.

I haven't tried the 32gr Blitzkings to be fair. As soon as I git the rifle I knew the 39gr Blitz were the way to go. Great BC and the 25" barrel handles them really well.

Powder wise, I'm using 25.6 gr of Vhit N530. Max recommended charge is 26gr, but mine groups really well at 25.6.

  8. Well, I have a 223 that has been sat in the gun safe since my CZ527 204 Varmint arrived 18 months ago.

Zipping 39gr Blitzkings at 3,800fps. I drop crows out to 400 yards on a regular basis, the furthest so far being 580 yards. Fast, explosive, great BC and whallops foxes, too.

I chest shot a fox at 230 yards a few months back and it reacted like it'd been hit with a lightning bolt!
