  1. Mine is from 1903.

I use reformed 30-30 and a lead bullet i had Tom at accurate molds cut specially for me.

The bullet is a stop ring design or a heeled bullet if you will. All the drive bands are ,321" and the front band is .332".

This means that the bullet wont "drop" down the case under recoil in the mag tube and i can reload indefinitely without sizing because the pressure are in BP territory.

I load 14,2 grains Vv N110 with a tuft of dacron on top.

The group (10 shots) is shot at 50m and i'm a crappy shot with iron sights.

If your gobberment will allow it i can send you a handfull or two of the bullets so you can try them.

Jacketed are a bitch because thay are designed for other guns and the crimp groove/cannelure (if any at all) are to far down and you will have to recut it. Expencive piece of kit!

Here are some 170gr Hornady i did:

Oh, almost forgot my dieset are RCBS Cowboy series. This means that they have an expander die as well, a must when loading lead bullets.

Thanks for that, I now have 100 new winchester 32-40 cases, But i dont think i will be putting the rifle onto my firearm certificate, its just too much hassle to reload for it, I just clean it and care for it,

  2. Winchester still makes limited runs of it occasionally but you can make it from 375 Winchester, 38-55, 32 Winchester Special and 30-30. I have used the latter by sizing the cases almost straight with a taper-ended rod about 35 caliber. Then they were necked down (FL) in the 32-40 die and fire formed. Some brass needed annealing before the process, some didn't, all could probably use it.~Andrew

PS: Nice rifle, btw. Are you planning to shoot cast bullets?

Thanks Andrew, I don't know what I will do yet, I need to do a lot more research on the rifle and shooting it, My cousin is bringing it over from Canada in june, with a box of what he describes as "assorted items"

    Regards Aj

  3. Hi, I have been gifted a 1904 Winchester 1894 in 32-40 cal, Its an obsolete cal so can use it as a wall hanger, but I would like to put it on ticket and use it, I have searched for brass but cant find anyone in this country that supplies it, also dies, can anyone point me in the direction of someone that can supply it?

Regards Aj sorry I seem to have posted this twice!!

Hi as regards your fac paperwork, go on the BASC website, you will find tips on filling out the forms, it is not that complicated, but there are ways of wording things that can help you in the application.

    Regards Aj

  5. Why?

You should see the rail-gun bench resters in the States then, they have a scope mounted on the bench and use that rather than look through the scope attached to the receiver, and then pinch the trigger.

The whole rifle is mounted on a large metal block on v-rails and is just a receiver and barrel with a small scope attached. With .22LR there is hardly any movement back along the rails as the whole thing is so heavy and no other part of the body touches the 'rifle' itself.

I saw that on a utube vid, What is the point?, it does not show up the shooters skill, just the proficiency of the.. well I wont call them rifles, Machine builders!!! I suppose its a case of "what ever floats ya boat".
