Looks lovely that, nice job! If successful and works as planned would you consider making and selling small quantities?

    Thanks @JDT

I have thought about it - everyone that’s seen it so far has asked for one(!)

I’ll gauge interest and see if making a batch becomes cost-viable.

Making bespoke parts like this isn’t as cheap as existing bulk manufactured items though - I believe Atlasworxs make a functional unit at a good price.

  2. Just thought I’d share this project again.

I'm admittedly a bit fussy about these things - not least because it's what I do for a living, but for me, the worst element of the T1x is the plastic trigger guard.

As a fundamental element of the rifle's operation, it's always grated on me that it had been overly value engineered. There isn't anything on the market that looked decent enough to match the rest of the rifle, so I've made my own.

Having 3D printed several iterations, the final version has been freshly CNC milled from a billet of 6061 and is now ready to test.

The fit and function seem absolutely spot on and (somewhat subjectively) it looks great - I've matched the profile of the magazine, as the rounded factory version never quite looked right.

I’m off to the range tonight to run it in, then (all being well) it’s in the post and off to for a lick of Cerakote.

    The New Conquest V4 scopes July 20.pdf 8.62 MB · 2 downloads

Interesting info on the new reticles indicating uses which i found useful. If it lists the reticle as applications 'Target' it generally means the reticle is finer. I am  more target oriented and went the ret 65  zmoai T20 route and it was spot on for me! Some are similar but thicker so be careful when ordering

Wellhouse, I'm really grateful for your input on this - you've raised a few really good points that I might otherwise have missed.

I'm now swaying towards the ZMOAi-1 reticle (fine enough for targets, but simple enough to be relatively fuss-free). The full illumination coverage might be handy in low-light, which was the original intention for this build. As you say, the #60 is actually quite a bit thicker which might have detracted from finer target shots. Additionally, the MOA increments (1MOA @ x24 power in the spec.) will get used at some point for quick holdover shots (with relative magnification: 2MOA @ 12x power / 4 MOA @ 6x power).

I've written-up my spec. for this and sent it via the Zeiss UK web contact form, so fingers crossed there is a 10m-infinty version for this model.

    Thanks again!

if it's any help the new range of Zeiss Conquest V4 go down to 10m or 50m parallax depending what  you order😊

All the models below are available in 10yd parallax including the 4-16x44, 4-16x50 and 6-24x50. These are the 'new' models. Hope that helps.[IMG] (when ordering make sure they check they are sending you the one you want 10yds or 50yds min parallax)

That's really useful info wellhouse; sincere thanks.

I'd already started swaying towards the 6-24x50 having read/watched a load of reviews about it's breadth of functionality (as well as liking a bit of excessive magnification for plinking). I'm not a huge fan of complex reticles, so the #60 seems ideal.

I am intrigued by the difference in min. parallax settings though - especially having noticed the variation in what is being advertised online. Any ideas how this is designated? Also, are the scopes you listed all available in either format... if so, any ideas why would that be?

    Can anyone help me please.

I have a thermal sight on my rifle and I need to know the range at which the bullet first crosses the axis of the barrel ( possibly around 20m ), and not the second time it crosses the axis of the barrel at 100m which is the range at which it is zeroed.

This thermal sight virtually precludes me from shooting at taget cards to find the answer by convential methods !

Can anyone sugest a reloading where it can find / generate this data.

    Thanks.

    Tony

Slap me for being pedantic... but... The bullet only 'crosses the axis of the barrel' as it travels along it. After exiting the barrel the bullet will only ever being falling away from that axis on an ever diminishing curve... assuming you hold your rifle the right way up and relatively level(!)

In this instance, the question relates to the curvature of the bullet's trajectory and the single point at which it becomes tangent to the constant of your scope's reticule - if successfully calculated / verified.

It's a good question. There will be a long list of variables to consider though - combining the curvature of your bullet's trajectory whilst factoring in the centreline of your scope from the centreline of the muzzle - especially with a NV/Thermal unit, potentially mounted relatively high.

As others have mentioned a ballistics app will get you close. Hopefully close enough to then verify with stepped paper targets at 10yrd intervals out in the field before finalising your zero.

  6. Looking into a new 'low light .22lr build' and I'm keen on the Zeiss V4 3-12x56. The only thing stopping me is the lack of parallax adjustment/focus. Every scope I've owned has included this and been useful (at least for longer range / larger calibres).

Simple question: does anybody know the minimum focus distance that these scopes are set to and is this likely to frustrate when mounted onto a .22lr (20 - 100yrds)?

    Many thanks,

    Rich

Boyds Laminate Thumbhole Stock, just finished glass bedding with Devcon, trying it out tomorrow. I have high hopes as it already shot tight groups with the plastic crap it came in (having had the metalwork fettled by Monsieur Baldie).

Still to come when funds allow:

    New trigger, undecided.

    Magazine conversion

Pod Claws - Available in the UK yet?
