  1. Just corrected the lack of keyring light and knife, that this thread brought to mind, with a pack of 10 LED keyring lights (for around a fiver ) and a Spyderco slip joint knife the "Spyderco Clipi Tool Stainless Steel Plain Edge and Spyder Edge Knife" (for about £30).

The Spyderco has impressed the hell out of me.

I'm stunned that a non-locker can feel as safe as it does - the joint mechanism itself feels secure, and it's made even safer by the clever positioning of the index finger choil that means the blade edge can't fold on your hand.

Every bit as useful as a lock knife.

Perfect size. An excellent UK legal choice. Very pleased with it.

Have a look at the brand new Sypderco Urban, expensive but they really got it right....

  2. Lots of good choices that will do the job and last well if properly cared for. My advice would be get yourself to a good outdoor shop with knowledgable staff and make sure they fit properly (don't just buy your size online and hope fir the best).

I run Meindl and Scarpa - I have pairs over 10 years old that have seen constant heavy use, subjected to Derbyshire peat hags on a regular basis which is known as a boot killer. They are still going strong

  3. Federal cases are good as they have slightly less case volume than others, for projectiles try either the sierra or hornady 180 RN. You'll need to experiment on your load working down rather than up (without a can on in case of baffle strikes). Ive not done a whole lot of testing but watch out for cold bore shots - mine tended to be very low with the following shots then grouping consistently. This could cause a problem in the field! A 1:12 stabilised the 180's just fine.

Contrary to some advice I've seen loading a BTHP backwards produced awful results, for me anyway, I could actually see the bullet looping and swirling to the target - it held about a minute of barn door literally.
