grimrecruiter
Hi I have bought myself a mint Ruger M77 Mk2 in 22 250. The rifle is completely unmarked and has not been threaded for a Mod. I will be using it for foxing and maybe CWD / Munties. Is there any advice that anybody can give on what thread size to choose? Akeld
I was always told , largest finest thread you can put on barrel, although the taper of my Ruger M77 MK2 .243 required the barrel to be shortened to allow a 1/2UNF thread
Rule_303
I'm going to guess your M77 has a "sporter" barrel contour...? As for threading it, a lot depends on what system your "tame gunsmith" likes using - Metric or Imperial. I guess the most common muzzle thread out there will be the 1/2" UNF (20 Threads per inch). You could try to get 1/2" UNEF (Extra fine - 28 TPI). That's the AR15 muzzle break thread. Or a M14x1 (1mm pitch ~ 25 threads per inch). That's common on Sakos. Try to get a thread that leaves a couple of mm per side for the Moddy to butt up against. Hope this helps.
