Scotch_egg
Would anyone run a silencer rated for 30-06 on a 7mm SAUM or 6.5 PRC?
Jagged 77
Yes I think so. When I contacted ASE about using a .30 cal mod on a .223 they informed it was perfectly safe but may increase noise by approx 3dB, overall pretty good though. i assume that your 30.06 mod is good for all .30 cal chamberings (.300 WM etc)
Scotch_egg
It’s my Oceania Defence Ratchet lock model. Says rated to 30-06 and a 7mm SAUM runs the same powder volume. I’m loading to 60.3gr of N560 it’s a much lighter construction than any of the Ase Utra offerings.
Jagged 77
I guess a quick email to them will hopefully shed some light. All I will say is that I’ve had a mod fail on me once on a .22 hornet of all things. I’d not want it to happen on something any larger! Re-Pete
I saw this happen on a 6.5.........the mod practically exploded and bits went everywhere.......the muzzle end of the barrel was ruined. Pete
nestking
You have to look what that cans are rated for by the manufacturer. Many .30 cal cans are rated for .300 win mag or below and they would be fine for .30-06. But if a manufacturer only rates their can for .308. A .30-06 would be a little over it's rating. Richiew
Most cans aren’t proofed /marked . The AI mod is proofed and stamped 308 but I believe it’s the same as the 338 one . My rimfire and wildcats are unmarked. Wildcat web I read a while back stated unproofed on their products. ????
Scotch_egg
I’m not going to risk it to be honest. I’ll use an old Jet-Z for now and wait for the new wildcat I that’s coming out next year.

You are worried it will explode some how ? If the bullet fits through the hole in the middle (technical term), the expanding gas pressure will be very similar (PRC is less than 10% difference) as will the volume so I can't follow your logic. A 30-06 will have a circa 9mm hole and the 6.5mm an 8mm, firing a smaller bullet through a bigger hole will create less pressure (in the mod) than the other way around. If the mod has less than a 25% overhead margin i'd be more than surprised... 100% sound more real world to me.
No i deer
I use a 30 cal S5 on my 284 and I'd use it on a saum if I had one for hunting or tactical purposes..
Richiew
Maybe we should stop buying unproofed moderators ?? A lot of suppliers would go out of business!!!

I've stopped buying them for centrefire rifles, full stop.....Granted, they dampen sound marginally but, after using 3 different makes and hearing a number of other makes I'd rather not fork out on something that has still made a sufficient enough of a 'bang' that prompts the second fox to sit-up behind a tree and have a cup of tea, until I decide to call it a night When the need arises mods on rimmies I find useful and much more effective, but that's about it for me... Until a moderater for centrefire rifles is made that is as 'silent' as ones used by '007' ...that'll be useful 😁
Richiew
We need one of them Hollywood silencers😃. The accuracy international mod is very good at making the rifle shoot with a whoosh rather than a crack in 308 , and the big wildcat predator 12 on the 223 doesn’t make much difference. It does stay on target though.
snakeman
Had the Wildcat Evo on a CZ527 .223...which was probably the best in sound reduction at least to my ears, and as decent as it was, sound simply wasn't surpressed enough for me. I bought the Evo when it was first introduced but still only used it just a dozen or so times in 5 years .... savvy fox around here 😒
Scotch_egg
The silencer really only makes a super sonic centre fire more tolerable to humans than animals. They do however help mitigate recoil and are far nicer than a muzzle brake. A I have played with subsonic centre fire. But unless you use a 750g bullet it won’t reach deer legal energy levels 🤣
