How long does it take you to change a barrel?

This barrel swap took a little longer, its an AR15 .223 barrel that needed re-crowning, took about 20 minutes to build back up again.

AIAXMC - about a minute.

Sig mpx - about a minute ( 16” pcc barrel and forend  exchange to 6.5” barrel forend and suppressor.

John how do you find the Carbon forend? - the one on the mpx is by Lancer - gucci but a potential negative (unless you run a suppressor inside it) is the diameter is larger than a regular aluminium forend so a C grip is not as comfortable.

SSG3000 takes sub 5 mins but is stock off procedure (including this in the time ) so in all five bolts to either undo or remove

Returns to zero quite reliably

AI takes a minute - 4mm hex and simply unscrew and re thread the barrel to hand tight and re tighten the 4mm hex

My other traditional rifles will take 5-10 mins with stock off and barrel vice / torque wrench and action wrench

thanks

I like the fixture, I was under the impression they were for thick walled uppers only, but evidently not (I've got one of the clamshell ones that Mark sold me)!

Looks easy enough to make, I'll have to add it to my todo list

Matt, add it to your ToDox2 list and I'll take one

John, where did you get the AR upper fixture?

Roy, I've made a few of these, they are easy to make and great to use for cerakoting the upper - it means you don't need to mask the insides.
I'll bring one on Sunday if you want to take a look - I won't be able to make another one until possibly later next week, the bar stock and square section are easily sourced and often don't need any machining to size, only drilling counter-sinking and tapping and two bolts.

For full-bore barrel fitting an action bar is better as it doesn't put any stress on the receiver at all. Sometimes the upper, especially forged and other thin walled ones, can distort if you really need to tighten up a little bit more to time the barrel nut.
