Which Imperial Comp ?

Recommended Posts

I would like to enter the Imperial in 2022 . Yes to see how I shoot , but also just for the experience

I shoot a Savage Ftr in 308 and Bergara in an MDT stock in 6.5cm.

The problem I seem to have is which discipline and which comps to enter . As many are spread over several days this compounds the problem . Without accomodation it means a round trip of almost 180 miles every day .

I'm happy to keep it simple and leave the aggregates for the more comp experienced .

Any recommendations / advice for an Imperial newcomer would be most welcome ūüėĀ¬†. A comp completed in one day perhaps ?

I do shoot at Bisley with my club and alone or with friends .

Generally 300 and 600 yds although I have shot at 1000 yds .

I have only used my 308 at Bisley , the 6.5cm used at The Rifleman's Hambridge.

If you join the GB Fclass league  https://gbfclass.com/  you'll be able to shoot 6th > 10th (all 5 days) All distances from 300 to 1000yds. Given you're traveling, you'd do well to book into the pavillion but you'll need to be quick as accommodation will be booked up very quickly. Oh, and about 300 + rds plus plenty of money for Beer food and more beer.

Hi,

The aggregates are worth doing as they don't cost much and without winning any single shoot you may qualify for a final (I managed to qualify for 2 last year and didn't win a single event), I'm guessing that you already know but the .308 will put you in FT/R and the 6.5 will mean F Open.

It's a good competition with a lot of friendly people.

As said you may want to book the accommodation early

I'd go with 308 personally, unless you are shooting the shorter distance on century. Very few people shoot 6.5 in F open, especially @ 800 yds+these days. Get that accommodation booked first. You can always get a refund if you cancel 7 day+prior. 180 miles a day is nuts, the fuel saving alone will pay for it not to mention time saved and the socialising.
