.300WM load data

Catch-22

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Im looking to gather your experiences and some suggestions loading the .300WM.

Gun has a 26” tube, 1-10” twist.

I’ll probably load Peterson, maybe Privi brass, and shoot the 190gn, 200gn or 210gn target bullets. I know I can go heavier but I like a balance of bullet weight and velocity. Distances will be out to 1200m max.

What are your thoughts on powder? Maybe Viht N160 or N165?

Thanks in advance.

Thanking you Incisor! That’s very good consistency you had there.

Did you have any particular tricks, such as using the Innovative Tech collet die for removing the bulge ahead of the belt? What dies did you use?

Does anyone else have any .300wm data they’d be willing to share please?

Thanks!

Anyone else?

Im particularly interested in any load data for the AI AWM in .300wm, which is a 26” 1:11” twist barrel.

Would the 208gn ELDM stabilise in the 1:11” twist? And do you think Viht N165 would be suitable? Or should I move to something like RS70, RS76 or something else?

Cheers

Was using redding dies  (available as I don’t have my 300 now) I do have the innovative tech die but never got or felt the need to use it

I’m resurrecting this thread.

Does anyone have any .300wm load advice, specifically those of you who have/had an AI AWM?

Im thinking I’ll still try Viht N165 and the 190gn SMK, 190gn and 200gn MME custom bullets from Peter and also the 208gn ELDM - because I’ve got them to hand. Though I conceded the 208gn may not be ideal given the somewhat silly 1-11” twist.

Thanks!

This thread might be a blast from the past, but thought it might be worth adding some data for anyone who’s interested.

Gun is a 2017 AW AWM .300wm, 26” barrel 1-11” twist.

Case: PRIVI (cheap but surprisingly good)

Primer: CCI200 & Murom KVB-7 LR

Bullets: 190gn & 200gn MME ‘Wimbledon’ custom bullets and 208gn ELD-M

Powders: VV N165, Lovex SO70 & RAMSHOT Magnum

Everything shot at Minsterly, weather good, little wind. Gun was on bipod with rear bag. Sadly my Magneto speed is bust, so I don’t have any velocity data.

Overall, I think the 200gn Wimbledon bullets with N165 shot the best.
I was also very impressed by 190gn and SO7O. Only found pressure with the upper RAMSHOT mag loads and the top end of 190gn with N165.

Ive decided to use N165 with the 200gn MME bullets as they’re better and cheaper than the 208gn ELDm. And I’ll also use up my last stock of SO70 (excellent powder) with the 190gn MME bullets.

Loads tested:

190gn MME, SO70, 2.9370” o-give

1. 70.0gn

2. 71.0gn

3. 72.0gn (shot the best group)

No pressure.

190gn MME, N165, 2.9370” o-give

1. 75.0gn

2. 76.0gn (I recon 76.5gn would be best)

3. 77.0gn

4. 78.0gn (Slight pressure)

200gn MME, N165, 2.9305” o-give

1. 74.0gn

2. 75.0gn (both 74.0gn and 75.0gn best and shot exactly the same)

3. 76.0gn

4. 77.0gn

No pressure.

208gn ELDm, N165, 2.8740” o-give (I couldn’t touch the lands but was longest I could load to mag)

1. 72.0gn

2. 73.0gn (best group)

3. 74.0gn

4. 75.0gn

No pressure.

208gn ELDm, RAMSHOT MAGNUM, 2.8740” o-give

1. 81.0gn

2. 82.0gn

3. 83.0gn (pressure)

4. 84.0gn (pressure)

Yeah the MME bullets are very good. And I like the fact that you’re supporting a local, independent chap, not some massive organisation based in the US.

Im not sure what twist your .300wm will be, but mine being an AI with a fairly slow 1-11” likes the 200gn a lot.

Personally I think the 208gn ELDM was just too long to stabilise properly. However that could have been the shape, rather than weight. I might ask Peter if he could do a 220gn Wimbledon bullet. However, the 200gn has shot nicely and will still do well at distance.

I liked VN165, nice and clean burning. Didn’t really get any pressure signs with it. Recoil impulse felt nice and comfortable, not sharp like some powders can be.
