6.5 Creedmoor and Berger 144 Hybrid

I managed to shoot my new 6.5CM for the first time today with the new Berger 144 Hybrids.  No load data was available that I could find so I started at a moderate 140gr Berger load in small primer Lapua brass.

Early days with new brass and a conservative COAL giving me 20 thou jump.

30" 1:8 5R barrel.

RS62 at 44gr with CCI BR4 primer:   Five shot average velocity of 2880 fps.(ES of 11) gave me a  0.4 MOA group (a bit too breezy for 'perfect' development conditions).  I think I can tweek the group tighter by playing with jump and ± 1/10gr increments.

44.5gr group was opening up,  I had no pressure signs so I may try going further up in load to find a node at higher velocity however I'm getting mildly compressed powder at 44gr

I've not used RS powders but I must say I was impressed with how clean it burns.

Hi Pops,

If you have used the 140 Hybrids (or any other 140 class bullet) how do these 144's compare to them in terms of seating depth/bearing surface in the case neck?

The Berger website provides dimensions that would indicate base to ogive would be similar but would be good to get real world opinion before I try a box.

Thanks,

Richard

Hi Richard,  I've not loaded 140 Bergers so I can't help you there mate.  I was very impressed with the 144 so I'll stick with them and develop an optimised load - I'm not one for jumping around trying different bullet combos.  They are expensive but I like to keep my wallet light 😁
