I'm not sure a bolt will necessarilly be noticeably more accurate than a BAR22...  put enough scope on the BAR and give it a go. Mine is silly accurate.

I’ll definitely give it a go when I’m next able to! It’s right on the legal limit for barrel length though, hence my pondering...

Out of interest, what have you found works best/is most accurate in your BAR22? I've been using Eley Force and Contact thus far, mainly due to reliability! Always willing to try something else though.

I've been out and tested some target ammo today..

Shot from 50yds prone.

CZ452 with a 9 mag leupold rimfire scope.

It's a little blowy today and bloody freezing..

I took some Norma subs which I've never tried before..

Used Harris bipod and rear bag.

Used some Eley match and eley club.

RWS club,match and special match..

Zeroed my new leupold rimfire scope with the 42gr winnie subs..

After some inconsistent results I tried a different approach as I suspected my eyes were at fault because I'm overdue a eye test and some glasses are needed as target was blurring 🙄.

Old timers setting in 😱

Anyway I thought I'd try aiming at white discs on a black back ground and I could focus and hold crosshair better.

Left to right

Eley match.

Eley club

RWS special match

RWS match.

I shot 2 groups of 5 shots with each.

Top and bottom are the same ammo

This is really interesting, I’ve been testing ammo in a cz457 match and I’m currently in contact with eley as both there match and subs are going super sonic in my rifle...

I chrono them yesterday and interestingly the subs were faster than the match!

subs average:1096fps

match average: 1086fps

air temp 0/2deg so speed of sound would be between 1086-1090fps

The match has proved good previously with best group at 3mm centre to centre, but this time opened up to around 15mm. The subs grouped better than the match in these conditions.

I guess it was partly down to some of the match going super / sub sonic so affecting consistency.

but I’m just disappointed the subs were all going super sonic defeating the purpose of subs!!!

rws subs always stay under.

I've not checked the velocities but the Norma subs are ment to be doing 1017fps According to wording on the box..

Very quiet ammo that cycled nicely unlike the 42gr winnie subs that stick in the chamber..

Not sure at what temperature there stated speed would be doing..

All the target ammo I tested was quiet enough.

Tried listening at the difference between the Norma and the eley match but I was probaly concentrating more on the accuracy..

More targets showing the eley club ammo. Most of it show a consistant poi.

I think on a warmer less breezy day I could do a little better.

I like the scope alot as I didn't wanna mess about focusing for hunting purposes..

Having a higher power scope and a side focus would of I think eliminated the black diamond in the middle of the target blurring.

I was happier with my tactical change around and got a better target acquisition with the white disc on a dark background.

I've used this way before and I'll probaly stick to this with my 22.

Higher mag would get you a better accuracy potential but I think I would of killed what I was aiming at humainly.

Wow that's not good.. a money saving exercise..

I'd be surprised if the new eley subs shoot any good in any rifle.

Have you got any other different brands you can pull and check on you A&D scales

Farmer Rick .
hello mate , I rekon you must just have a dodgy lot .
make no mistake, I have shot Eley subs ( old school 40 grain ) for donkeys years and nothing else , these new 38 grain efforts I just can’t do anything with them in the 4 rimfires I have owed over the past couple of years . Eley just seem to doing what they do best and fiddle .
anyway here is my findings with my anni 14/16 ( 18” barrel ) over 10 shots

shot at 128 m ASL and 10-11 degrees
