I can't find these locally. Buying online is an option but at £1-2 each plus a RFD to RFD fee not really attractive. Why shouldn't I cut down a shell, seal the top and just use that?

I did wonder but thought a light film of silicone might do the trick.

I think the blanks are blackpowder, in order to go 'bang' unconfined. I suspect a nitrocellulose shell won't give the same effect, unless you make it have to burst the plastic shell case.

I think  Helston Gunsmiths may do these or Primetake.  Also quite popular in grenade simulators for the airsoft community

Cut down an aluminium type snap cap of similar drill the centre out ( what would be the primer pockets ) just big enough to take a .22 long blank ( same as the type you put in dummy launchers ) 

place blank in snap cap , place in alarm mine and arm as per normal.

end result a perfectly legal /safe and far more efficient method of countryside security 👍

also a lot louder and cheaper to feed than those quite frankly rubbish black power efforts .

I like that idea. Probably safer than a home-bodged 12g blank too.

You can seal shotty cartridge by melting the center crimp area like they do on wildfowl loads/shells . atb
