Canine companions

The loss of a dog is heart rending.

Getting a pup to replace it feels disloyal somehow.

I lost one of my two dogs last year at 18 years age and I must admit to shedding tears. I wasn't of a mind to get another dog as my age means I could 'pop my clogs' before the dog and I couldn't bear that!

Then fate stepped in and I landed up with a nearly blind(only 4 year old!) JRT.

He is fantastic and gets on really well with my old Cocker Spaniel and my daughter's JRT cross.

I suppose the moral is if you miss your dog and need canine company (I do as I live alone) then go and find a rescue dog.

I know what you mean. Dodgyrog, we lost our 15 year old lurcher (ex Battersea) a year ago in November. We weren't looking, but our vet rang a month later and asked us to foster a saluki lurcher that the dog warden had brought in. Eighteen month later he's still here!

Sorry to hear that John....they get under the skin, dont they?  Hard when you lose one.  I've gone through that half a dozen times now but never regret the next one.  Each one is a joy...a different character but at least you have happy memories of the one lost.

There's a bitch at the bottom of our lane a couple of months old than him, called Lola, very cute - also has the ears/feet too big for rest of her issue currently :)

She drives our 8 yo Retriever mad, poor old chap :D
