Recommended Posts

Spent years with CB radios, all AM sets, tristars, midlands, HAM International base station side banders with 1000w burners and directional aerials, QSL cards from all over the world. Magmounts that came off the roof when you hit 60mph!! Treasure hunts all round the country in convoys of mini gt's and escort mexicos......good days!!  First CB was hose clamped to the cowhorn handlebars of my pushbike ahha

And of course with today’s technology and how we tracked and spied on buy Everyman and his dog , they probably the most secure means of communication available haha 😂

let’s face it who uses analogue these days ?

While in my tractor today I’ve listening to a group of lads , from the village over the back . they sound mixed ages  , youngish and OAPish  discussing how to  court a lady correctly .......... National service  ........weather  a pizza counts as all of your 5 a day , and how they are going to plan a covert fishing trip at the lake during lockdown and if they could call it there daily exercise..

Some of the piss taking is priceless.

here’s my rig In the axion

Memory time now...for me ,when it went FM and legal it went a bit tame.

Midland ,Tristar for mobile and Ham International for the serious stuff.

Great fun, great times a bloody good laugh...coupled with liquid cooled Yam 2 Strokes and  some fiercely competitive pistol comps ,Pistol Anno Domini at Bisley....what happened?

Life was a whole lot simpler then....

because he wanted  TA-KILL -HA ...

spose  you had to be there  but it’s was just so unexpected it was hilarious

4 Watts AM,  12 Watts SSB (base station/mobile remote antenna only) if I recall.  Higher power is illegal

You are half correct, AM was illegal (but fun) however legislation changed in 2014 to allow amplitude modulation on 27MHz (as well as FM/PM)

I remember shutting the McDonalds drive thru down in Guiseley every night with a 25W burner in the early 90's 🤣

They must have known it was me as a lot of the time there was only me in the car park talking to people in Sheffield. 🤣

I'm seriously tempted to get another set up for "emergency" use but I want a covert ariel.

With todays technology is there any such thing as a short ariel?, like a standard car ariel size?
