Hi,

      I need a 3/16 Hex bit to remove my action bolts. They have to go through the plastic of the chassis so need to be long. 
 

I ordered some long imperial bits on sockets but the shank of each bit is too wide to fit through the plastic. 

I want sockets or screwdriver bits so I can use a torque wrench.

Without buying from AI anyone got any ideas?

Think I’ve solved my own problem. Bought a 3/16 standard L shaped hex wrench. Going to cut it off and JB Weld it into a 1/4 socket.

Which screws ? on which model rifle? - a picture may help.

AFAIK my AW and AXMC screws are all metric.

 If it’s an AX / AXMC then threre is an Allen key under the cheek piece that can remove  many of the Allen bolts in the rifle ( not all).

I was reading on the AI site some instructions that said they were 3/16. 
 

It’s an AW. 
 

I’ll try find the instructions again.

Yep. Says 3/16 Hex insert to 6nm

With the skins off does the chassis look like this? ( older AI AW). Not my rifle but it’s the same.

If it does I can take the skins off my rifle and do some pics.

It’s the bolts on the underside I want to remove. I can see that the ones holding the skins on are 4mm

My AW is old school so a different chassis- sorry no help.

Again old school idea is to mark with a pencil the bolt heads and a witness mark on the chassis and torque back to the same position ( not necessarily the same torque though ). More an issue is that the action is bonded to the chassis.

If its got holes in the plastic skin undersides, its not an AW.

You have an AICS chassis I think. The bolts are Imperial to fit remington/clone actions.

That's the one Dave as you built it. Only said AW as that's what Sporting Services said when I was looking at some bits.

You should be able to find some bits online Ian which are longer than Standard. Pretty sure Brownells do them as single items, which go in their gunsmith screwdriver kits [ their bits are excellent quality, as it all American tooling.}
