Barrel thread choice

Hi, i have just acquired a remington 700 sps tactical, so it has the heavy/fatter barrel. I'm going to get the barrel threaded for a mod, what would be the best thread to go for with that barrel?
Thanks in advance.

5/8”x24 UNEF, if it’s bigger than .243, if it’s .223 then 1/2”x28 UNEF is the best and most popular thread ever, that way there are plenty of mods and cool muzzle brakes available

Stay away from British UNF and Euro metric poofery and you will live a happy and contented life

Slightly different take and it’s only my view-

have the rifle threaded to largest diameter the current barrel will allow

example - if the barrel diameter at the muzzle is .600” then it will take a M14x1mm thread ( it also take 1/2” unf /unef)

Though if 30 cal I’d steer away from 1/2” threads as the root thickness isn’t ideal in my view (that isn’t to say you shouldn’t - I just don’t like that thread in 30 cals)

Hope that helps

I had one of these in 223 and came threaded 5/8 unf. I believe available in 223 and 308 20" hb 19mm muzzle dia so 1/2 unf is a bit small.  Wildcat mod can change thread to suit.
