Wightknight
Hi all, I'm looking to buy my first rifle which will be used initially for 500 yard TR-F / F-TR. (maybe with the option of going up to 1000 Yards) Would a Remington 700 sps varmint .308 with 26" barrel be a good start. Small budget , looking to spend £800-£1000 on rifle. I will be hand loading too, so don't mind working on loads to suit. Any thoughts or alternatives suggestions?
Tomo999
Valkyrie Rifles built me this 5 or 6 years ago - basically the Remi 700 SPS varmint in an AI chassis. Shoots very well out to 600 yds with reloads.

I have this very rifle, essentially out-of-the-box. l’ve used it out to 1,000 yards with a Schmidt & Bender 3 - 12 x 50 ‘scope. lt will serve you very well as it comes, and you have a huge variety of Gucci bolt-ons and custom tweaks from which to choose as needs and budget require. maximus otter
MichalS
For similar money You can have a Sabatti Tactical Sport with 28" long 1.05" diameter match barrell. Mine and others I know of shoot 0.3-0.5 MOA out of the box with factory (GGG) ammo all day long. Cannot recommend it more. I shot a stock R700 - there is no competition.
