mole-e30
600 yard Benchrest Competition Sunday 28 February I think weather forecasters are like politicians, whatever they tell you it never really turns out that way. My weather forecast said 6-7oC for Diggle on Sunday, but it was nothing like that icy cold again but thank goodness nothing but a few ripples on Lake Diggle. Last shoot of the 600 yard season, how many today? We have 35 shooters, not quite a recorded but a great turnout, thanks to all for coming. Whilst the league winners of Factory Sporter and Light Gun had been settled at the last shoot there were still plenty in contention for 2nd and 3rd places and all the podium places in Heavy Gun up for grabs. Light gun in the morning, 4 relays, 16 shooters. We must have had the first shot down the range by 10:00, again no difficulties sighting in. There was probably more wind than was immediately evident and there was the odd sneaky switch of direction catching a few, yours truly included. Vince had tried to get all those contenting for leagues places on the same relays but not quite possible with sharing rests etc., but they were on adjacent relays. It was soon evident that a few top dogs were clearly on form and small group would be aplenty, and the first two relays probably getting the better of the wind. Well done to Vince and all shooters, we’d done by 11:30. A quick look at the targets at lunchtime showed, Bruce, Jeanette, Vince, Mal, Adrian and a few others had put in some good groups, there were still a few light guns to shoot in the afternoon so nothing was in tablets of stone. After those few shot in the afternoon, final scoring showed honours this time going to Bruce Lenton (with 4 groups in the two’s), Jeanette Whitney (with 3 two’s and a 3) then Mal Roberts. Vince Bottomley took small group honours. Well done guys and gal - cracking shooting. Results for Light Gun: Ist Bruce Lenton – 2.639” 2nd Jeanette Whitney - 2.791” 3rd Mal Roberts – 3.607” Small Group – Vince Bottomley 2.245” PM - Heavy Gun and Factory Sporter So how’s the wind? From the luxury of the range house it looks about the same, maybe a touch easier, we’ll see. Factory Sporter; 4 shooters today, will Darrel get his petrol money back to Wales – no! Honours today go to Mike Walker, second Darrel and Toni Young in third place. Small group honours too go to Mike just pipping Darrel by 2.1mm (94 thou), but both down in the 2’s. Heavy Guns, having safely returned from overseas Jonathan Walker is on the firing line, and good to see Dale back again. We have 10 Heavy Guns today. Some small groups, in the low 2’s start to appear, whoa Laurie that looks small! In the end Jonathan easily takes first place with 2 in the 2’s and 2 just in the 3’s, Dale’s not lost his touch and comes second, Emily Lenton having to settle for 3rd place today, by just 25thou. Laurie misses the places but is rewarded with small group, and the best group of the day by anyone, not a UKBRA record but it’s getting close. Again, well done guys and gals. Results for Factory Sporter: Ist Mike Walker - 3.881” 2nd Darrel Evans - 3.437” 3rd Toni Young - 3.462” Small Group - Mike Walker - 2.81” Results for Heavy Gun: Ist Jonathan Walker – 2.814” 2nd Dale Almond – 3.437” 3rd Emily Lenton – 3.462” Small Group - Laurie Holland – 1.85” Full Results https://www.dropbox.com/s/1rb8ss441rbv85s/UKBRA%20600BR%2028th%20February%202016.pdf?dl=0 2015/16 League Results So now for the League Positions, we were scheduled for 6 shoots, one got cancelled due to bad weather and then we managed to slip in an extra one so it’s the best 4 from the 6 shoots taking place, maximum is 40 points (4 straight wins). Light Gun: Ist Jeanette Whitney – 38pts 2nd Bruce Lenton – 36pts 3rd Vince Bottomley – 33pts Heavy Gun: Ist Jonathan Walker – 39pts 2nd Emily Lenton – 33pts 3rd Laurie Holland – 31pts Factory Sporter: Ist Darrel Evans – 40pts 2nd Mike Walker – 38pts 3rd Toni young – 24pts Full Results https://www.dropbox.com/s/ui7ii7stdlnvu05/UKBRA%20600BR%202015-16%20League.pdf?dl=0 Congratulations to all our medal winners, some old faces and some new. You’ll get your just rewards at the prize giving in December. Ignoring a few who have shot in more than one category, this year we had 33 shot Light gun, 19 shot Heavy Gun and 11 shot Factory Sporter, approximately 60 shooters overall. That’s great let’s keep it up, the more the merrier as they say, and the better the competitions. Next shoot is Sunday 1st April – 1000yards. News: As promised after the shooting we spent time discussing two important topics left over from the AGM – (i) the ongoing definition of “Factory Sporter” for 600 and 1000 yards (ii) 1000 yards Heavy Gun course of fire and competitions. The definition of Factory Sporter will stay as-is for this forthcoming 1000yards series, and further consultation with members will occur, before a final review at the next AGM. Those shooting FS are encouraged to make sure their views are known to the committee. Heavy Gun course of fire will be 4 by 10 shot groups, however Vince when scheduling the relays will ensure a 10 mins “cooling off period” for the heavy guns between each of their groups. This change will be reviewed at the next AGM. Safe shooting Tony Lenton
