Another question for the 700 owners

I had a lot of useful advice for my last question (thanks all)

So I'll try my luck again. The Rem 700 I bought was threaded, but with any moderators I have, is too long for any of my slips, I know I cold carry it separately but have any of you shortened your barrels, and if so to what length? I will be using the rifle for a lot of lamping, but we also do a lot of tuck work (Discovery), Where at the moment it is usable but a bit ungainly. A quick shot is impossible, with safety in mind. Any comments would be thankfully accepted, but please no safety lectures from anyone, I've shot since I was 14 and I'm now well the wrong side of 60. But I'm not to proud to ask for advice from people who know better than me. Thanks again

Steve

Starting to use moderators/Harris bipods did kick off a round of slip purchases. I have a cheap polyester slip for taking my Remington to the hill with the moderator attached. I have other slips which I use for transporting my rifles without the moderators fitted.
