tonker
I bought an as new Rem 700 a couple of weeks ago. Then found out about the trigger recall. I went on the rem website and they say my rifle is not part of the recall. The rifle was made in 2003 according to the serial number, but I was assured it only had a shot count of about 90 and the condition certainly backs this up. The guy I bought it off said it had a different trigger put in off a top end model. Now to my eyes it just looks like an X-Mark Pro adjustable. So now I haven't a clue if I have a safe trigger or not. I've read so many articles on the walker and x-mark triggers my brains frazzled. I know that I'm gun safe! but it doesn't help matters having that doubt every time I load, or push the safety off. I think I'll have to bite the bullet and buy an after market trigger, any suggestions, I've narrowed it down to a rifle basics or a timney. I'm not going to shell out for a jewel as my rile is getting dearer all the time, and I'm not made of money Thanks for your ears, should have gone for a dearer rifle in the first place. Live and learn eh.

MrCetrizine
I'm pretty sure rifle craft handled the trigger jobs for the recall, they'd surely be able to tell you if it needed it.

gunner
I had a new trigger put on my 700 think its a rifle basix or is it timney - its got a wide blade that has tiny grooves cut into it ! Although it was really lite break it felt a little spongy and i couldn't seem to get the last little bit of creep out ! Iv got a jewel on a custom rem clone , its spot on from day 1 ! jcampbellsmith
The problem with Jewells is that you very soon want one on all your rifles. Merry Christmas JCS
tonker
Thanks for all the advice and help guys. I thought (with a lot of help from others) that I'd go back to basics, so I phoned Riflecraft and spoke to a lady who confirmed that my rifle was not on the recall list, but the chap who knew about the triggers wasn't there today but he would give me a call tomorrow. As my rifle had an aftermarket trigger and I didn't know which it was, she thought a chat about it might sort things out. I said I thought it was an X-Mark pro adjustable, and she said that if there is any doubt later on they would have it in to check. Can't be fairer than that. I'll keep you posted if you like? I think of you look on the Remington website, any Xmark Pro triggers that have been checked or changed will be marked in some way - normally a small punch mark or similar. I spoke to Riflecraft about my trigger after buying a Rem 700 earlier this year and checked the web site and it seems mine had been 'done' already.  regards  Mark
LVSF 243
The is only one trigger to have in a Remington and that's a Jewell .I have two jewells in both my Remingtons you will be shocked with your groups well worth the money. Bushdog
I have a jewell on my Rem 40x and a timney trigger on my Rem 700. Both great triggers. My 700 is my regular working rifle. Can't see any reason to replace the timney with the jewell! I agree. In fact I replaced my Jewell with a Timney, and am perfectly happy. I certainly don't miss the flushing with lighter fuel business.
tonker
Update as promised. Riflecraft have been in touch and said although the serial number is not on the recall list, as the trigger has not been punch marked they would have the rifle and check it through on a recall. It has to go through my rfd and it will take one or two weeks. As it will ease my mind to know I have a safe trigger this has been well worth doing. cheers guys Steve

tonker
Trigger was gummed up in the workings, so may have had trouble latter, just as well I had it checked!! I had my mate an RFD put a Timney in it, as it wasn't on the recall list but someone had put an X Mark Pro in it.
