Bee Keeping

Bizarre one I know, but my wife has asked me if she can take up Bee Keeping in 2016, to compliment our sheep, chickens, quail, cider making, preserves and anything else she dreams up.

Does anyone here keep bee's ? Could any give me a honest outlook on it.

Cheers,

T

Hi I'm a bee farmer. To look after them from April to the end of August you have to open the hive to do swarm control every 9 days. If you don't they will swarm. Limits holidays etc. If you don't mind putting the time in then look at the BBKA website to find the nearest group and book a few lessons. Make sure the lessons are hands on with bees, bees can be very intimidating the first few times.

You are both welcome to come here and look through a few hives in the spring, in one day we can go through 40 or 50 hives and makes a real fast learning curve.
