Short action calibres?

Toots

Recommended Posts

If, for instance, a man had a perfectly good remmy 700 short action in .243 and he fancied "dipping his toes in the custom rifle pond" then what other calibres use a short action? Having done a bit of reading I am really really fancying 6.5x47 (which I believe is superb) but information on other "short action calibres" eludes me! Guidance much appreciated. Thanks in advance lads.

Rik.

You are running a .308 size bolt face there buddy, so there is a fair old list.

.20br

.22br

6mmbr

6mmdasher

6xc

.243

.243 ai

22/250

22/250ai

6.5x47

6-6.5x47

6mm swiss match

6.5 grendell [i think]

.308

etc etc, and probarbly quite a few more.I love the 6.5x47 personally.

Ask Tikka how his shoots, as i believe he shot a pretty outstanding group with it recently.

You just need to get your wallet open and get a shorter pod now!!!

Toots also have a wee look at .260 or .260AI another good cal.

Yep, if you want to shoot a 139 grain 6.5 bullet, the .260rem is a better choice than the 6.5x47, which is really better suited to the 108-123 weght bullets. Yes the yanks shoot the 139,s outa them, but it defeats the object of the excercise...ie 3000 fps. A friend has a .260ai on a surgeon, and its awesome. Bit of a bugger to make feed , but it was sorted. Also, redding do their custom dies, off the shelf for this calibre now.

Andy H. has a bit more sense than others made out...if he opted for a shorter bi-pod he would be shooting lumps out that fence post ;) ;) :P
