Scotch_egg
Can any one offer experience of a .284 Shehane with a 28" barrel shooting a 180 gr bullet? What velocity are you achieving. I believe 2900fps is the magic number for this combination.
6mmBR
My Shehanes run 32" barrels and I get 2950 fps with H4831sc and 180 Bergers you may struggle with a 28" tube? However if you use Reloader 17 2900 fps plus should be on the cards with a 28" tube. Good luck Dave
Scotch_egg
Thanks Dave. If using rl17 will I be looking at reduced barrel life? And temperature sensitivity?
Elwood
I'm also using 32 inch barrels, and getting some where between 2940 and 2990 fps depending on the barrel. You might just get your 2900 fps with H4831 SC but it would be very touch and go.
6mmBR
Thanks Dave. If using rl17 will I be looking at reduced barrel life? And temperature sensitivity? My .284 did 2200 rounds on Reloader 17 and was still shooting when I sold it! I think a lot of this rubbish about Reloader powders and barrel life are from people who just never have tried it in the real world and just like to spout what they've heard. I personally never found Rel 17 to be temp sensitive in UK temp brackets. It worked fine in Bisley when it hit the 30's during the Imperial! Give it a go.
