shotgun sam
What is the maximum safe powder compression you would use in 223 and
6.5shooter
I use 27 gr varget in a 223 lapua case behind a 60 vmax and it is slightly compressed. When pressing down the press handle when seating the bullet there is a slight crush being heard and felt. I use a long drop tube when filling the case with powder and this helps slightly and gives a consistent crush whereas I found without the drop tube it was very inconsistent. I think as long as you dont have any over pressure signs in youre case the limiting factor will be bullet movement. What I mean is, when you seat youre bullet, check it to make sure the bullet hasnt moved to lengthen OAL. I think if I used a slightly faster powder than varget with the 60 grainers I would be better off but the accuracy is superb so I dont want to change a proven combination. Hope this helps.
