scope height

Recommended Posts

I measure the diam of the barrel at the action, divide youre measurement by two.

Measure youre scope tube diam, divide by two.

Meaaure the space between youre scope and action and add them all together. Works for me but id like to hear how others do it too.

All well and good if you are using a parallel rail ( 0 MOA )

What if you are using a 20 MOA rail ?

Where do you guys measure from then ?

I'm guessing that it would be at the turrets where the actual reticle is. With a tapered rail, the length of the scope would determine the apparent height at the objectives. I may be wrong, and I'm sure scope construction would alter this, but it's what I'd do not knowing any better.~Andrew

Even if you're a whole mm out; here's the effect for a rifle zeroed at 100m:

100m - nil, 200m - 1mm, 300m - 2mm, 400m - 3mm and so on.

Nothing to lose sleep about :)

Exactly the same way, makes little difference. Scope to bore height isn't too critical i doubt anyone could be so acurate in measuring as to bother with MOA comenstations.

Personally i just do it by eye alighning my calipers at the side, have also done it with a tape measure. All said and done it is only of use to compare loads on software on a level pegging / near nuff basis or start off a Dope data sheet
