  1. Didn’t someone start making pretty much exactly this and call it the Fat Boy? Based on a .223 T3 with a really short fat barrel. can’t remember who did them though.
  2. Gone for a HMR - feel like it’s the right choice but at the same time feel like a hornet would be more fun
  3. Still haven’t shot anything in the chest yet but accuracy wise and terminal performance i much prefer these over the TTSX I was using previously - I also like the idea that you can change up to the somewhat tougher versions in the same weight with a claimed no change in POI or performance.
  4. Shot a couple of roe yesterday and happy with the way the Merlins work. Other feedback seems to be a bit violent at closer range but i tend to head / neck stuff close in so that actually suits me. Happy so far
  5. So quick update with no pictures because I was in a rush. Did 4 separate loads in 1gn increments to the same length as my original ELD loads 42gn - 45gn 42’s were crap - maybe better part of a 2 inch group. Got better as we got punchier until 45gn and very happy with what I got. Single hole for the first three shots then one about touching and then I pulled the 5th but for now that’s my go to. Primers and bolt lift all fine. not convinced that I could shoot any better than the group I got at 45gn - very happy with it. not shot anything with them yet but accuracy wise they seem pretty good - so far so good.
  6. Cheers Jimmy, that’s a good starter for 10. Furyan - I haven’t tried them. I was on TTSX but can’t get them just now so was recommended to try the Virtus by a friend of mine who was testing them and likes them. I think that they work on a very similar basis. Hopefully they are better because they are also a bit cheaper!!
  7. Very long shot but to save me a little bit of initial legwork, does anyone have a pet load for a .260 with a 110gn bullet. Currently have been shooting 120gn ELD-M and then Barnes TTSX in front of 43gn RS60 but have got some Virtus Merlin 110gn to try as I’ve been recommended them and looking for somewhere to get going from. Cheers.
  8. My NXS 3.5-15 works alright with my 007 Not as good as the Hawke on my .22 but works fine for shooting stuff
  9. Daft question but does anyone know which 007 collar fits an NXS properly. I’ve got one that’s too big but no idea which size it is - I’ve padded it out with tape which works alright but it’s a bit of a pain because it sometimes moves and ends up off centre because the fit is a bit wrong Also - does anyone use a 007 with an NXS 5.5-22? mine works ok with the 3.5-15 but I struggle with the 5.5 - any tips appreciated because I’ve heard of people using them Cheers Dan
  10. Cheers Delboy - they do look good. are they the same fit, gas piston etc as the extrema type models?
  11. Looking to have a change of my 8 shot because, we’ll just because mostly. Have sold my benelli super 90 and fancy a beretta. has anyone got any experience of buying a 3 shot and converting it, ease of doing it, cost and parts to use etc. also - fancy an extrema but open to suggestions, not fussed 5 or 8 shot cheers
  12. I’ve always wondered about SSS - the prices on the website are pretty reasonable but then when you see them for sale second hand (rarely) or anyone speaking about them the price paid at the end seems to be a lot more once you have the extras.
  13. Having got totally bogged down yet choice I’ve been using my .22-250 for hares in some plantings and now I’m I’m no mad rush. a .222 / .223 with a 40gn varmint grenade could be another option. such a massive choice is a pain sometimes, especially when you are being a bit picky for no reason! The hornet itch is, however still there!!
  14. Thanks for that - it’s not a dislike of HMR or anything to do with bullets really, I know plenty people who shoot thousands of rounds through theirs with no problems - it’s more just a stubbornness and wanting to feel special I think I know that it’s the right choice really and the 17rem is probably too much but the hornet had peaked my interest a bit
  15. Ps. Only shooting rabbits and hares, no foxes or anything any bigger
  16. I have a .22LR and it’s handy but I could do with something with a bit more range / flatter shooting for shooting at night, mainly with NV. Common sense says a HMR is the obvious choice but I’m a bit fickle and don’t love the idea of one so looking for thoughts on WMR, Hornet (.22 or .17) or even a .17 rem potentially. Not firing millions of rounds, do reload (very basically). Noise isnt a massive issue other than disturbing other rabbits (I use a .22-250 occasionally for the job when I get really pissed off) but less is better. Am I just being stubborn with avoiding the HMR or is one of those options a real contender, I’ve never used any of them but quite like the idea of the hornet.
  17. Perfect, thanks all. It’s a pain in the arse!
  18. I’ve got one here if you are needing one - don’t use it and can’t really see me needing it at any point.
  19. I have a night master torch mount that I’ve never loved having lost a light with one falling off the rail in the middle of a scarified forestry planting. Other than that cock up, I find that it ends up coming out of line when you are carrying the rifle about which is a pain because when you flick the light on it is t pointing with the scope, very frustrating. Has anyone found this, and more importantly has anyone found a way to stop happening other than sack it off for a torch factory version which I have never had the problem with cheers
  20. Thanks, that was what I was looking for really. now the decision is really 10x or 8x which will sort of decide the brand
  21. I’m in the same boat - either vortex of Kahles, anyone have a preference between the two (obviously vortex being 10x). last light performance would be nice but I’m am using NXS’s so they are likely to give up first. With the vortex warranty, if you buy second hand, how do you return them in the event of a fault! Just any dealer or back to the importers? apologies to rekindling and old thread
  22. Vortex 50mm fit perfect, cheers for the advice
  23. Lovely, had a look yesterday and had thought that would be logical but wasn’t sure
  24. With the vortex, open to all ideas but it’s the size I’m needing if anyone has them and knows which ones. cheers
