  1. Had the fortunate opportunity of attending this competition through Cawdor Rifle Club, an excellent shoot with inventive stages which was hosted by 3 Scots at Fort George and Tain Air Weapons Range. Many thanks to all of them and especially the staff, a very well run event considering it was the first time this has been done. Very generous of them to open the competition to civillians (although it was a seperate division compared to the Scottish Snipers). Some soldiers from other regiments attended this as part of the Open Division, unfortunately Police Scotland and Accuracy International were unable to attend. For 3 days worth of shooting, I walked away being very thankful of the chance to participate and also with some things to work on with my own shooting. I packed the Remington 700 Varmint in 7mm08 that I bought off @deadcenter , swapped the stock out for one off a Remington LTR, added a Spartan picatinny adapter (best option despite not using a Spartan bipod) which was epoxy bedded and screwed into the stock. Also epoxied the sling studs into the stock. A 'mag extender' from Rimfire Magic was added to take the internal floorplate magazine from 4+1 to 5+1 rounds (would not feed reliably with 6 in the mag), Hunter Specialties cheekpad, TriggerTech Special flat, MDT 20MOA rail and topped off with a Bushnell 3-12 LRHS in MRAD. Decided on a load about two months beforehand, shooting 162 Hornady Amax over Superformance powder and PPU brass. Speed, accuracy and ammo consistency were all good enough and did not limit my performance at this competition which was shot from 100-600 yards. Day 1 started with a 100m zero check, minimum of 5 rounds on a zeroing target to confirm velocity for those shooting handloads. We would start with a few 'precision' stages so I shot a 3 round group and corrected 0.1 mil left and 0.1 down (ranges were actually in yards but marked as meters...) First stage was 'Bingo', horizontal lines only, +10 for each line completed and -10 for incorrectly called lines. Numbers were called out at random, and the stage was timed where you had to load, locate the number and engage within 5 seconds. I was happy to withdraw after scoring one line (top), as I realised it could be a major ammo sink if you decided to go for all 4 lines. There was an element of luck to this, as not all targets were given the same card. Comments were that giving each detail the same targets and limiting the number of rounds available would have been ideal. One shooter was at -20 having incorrectly called two lines! (Also by someone else shot my target by accident!) Following this, we had 'Plate Party' pick 5 scoring rings and try to hit them with 1 round each. Generous time limit. In hindsight I should have been more conservative but 4 consecutive hits built my confidence enough to try for the '10'. Unfortunately missed! The eventual Open division winner managed to clean this stage, (the '11' ring was about 9mm in diameter). They were the only person who managed to clear this stage. Following this, we moved back to 400 yards for the last event of the day, 'Rapid Bolt'. This involved starting 10 meters behind the firing line with rifle on firing point. 5 shots on a 'V bull' type target followed by another 5 shots onto black circles which measured out to about 2 MOA in diameter. All to be done within 60 seconds. I did OK, considering I was the only rifle without a detachable magazine system, scoring all 5 hits on the V bull type target (but not all in the V!), but only one hit on the smaller circles (only managing 9 shots out of 10 within the time). I was not agressive enough on the wind call and made a mental note of this for the following days (Fort Geroge gallery ranges are right next to the coast!). End of Day 1. Will continue this at a later date.

  5. Hi there, would you be willing to sell the floorplate separately? Thanks.
