  1. Being semantically pedantic (& to be fair), I was probably making 7 out of 10 hits over the approx. 30 rounds spent... rather than the "almost every shot" I glibly recalled. (Though while plinking away that day, it did seem like hitting almost every shot... and it did feel mighty impressive... 😀) And to be even fairer, the really impressive stat with my wee rig currently is the 5.1 SD I'm getting with this batch of Match. So if my back of fag-packet reckoning is in the ballpark, the top of the bell-curve was going consistently into sub 40cm vertical at 720m... ps. Is discussion of vertical dispersion at silly ranges strictly off topic? Anyway, apologies too if it is.
  2. No mate, I wasn't in that context. Apologies for confusion. After hitting on that nice wee .22LR initially (& taking the perfect opportunity to show my own wee ELR practice rig) I went on to expand generally on the OP's topic, & concur with his own preferences for using higher mag when & wherever possible. (I shoot ELR mostly with a 28 & a 3028 Nosler & often shoot suppressed. I know all about managing recoil... )
  3. Nice .22eLR... I have one of its brothers from various other mothers. 49.1Mil dialable in the Toric topped system (655m with Eley Match) & with a further 48Mil marked holdover on the reticle to theoretically take an Eley Match out to 970m. So far I've had it hitting a 300mm plate almost every shot at 720m in good conditions. Not bad for a wee .22... On the OP's original point, with most long range shooting, magnification is 'mostly' your friend & if you've got it, flaunt it. I mostly like & use lots of mag too (rarely off x40 on my March FX shooting Long Range modes). I also try never to compromise available mag to fix bad positional or poor shooting form & follow through (unless push really comes to shove in timed competition). Cheers.
  4. A reluctant final act in my long and slow conversion over to FFP scopes for all my rifles. (And consequent painful loss of 50x power capability ) Ok, these scopes need little introduction here, and this one only saw the light of day on special occasions. As can be seen, it's immaculate. Virtually like new. Features: ED & HD Glass (Significantly reduces chromatic aberration, improves colour faithfulness & image sharpness). Illuminated Second Focal Plane DLS-1 MIL Based reticle (SFP - Best for ultra-precision). 30Mil Internal Elevation - 0.05 MRAD Turret Clicks. Fully Multi-Coated (FMC) lenses (Excellent light transmission & optical brilliance. Locking Turrets with Zero Stop - Side Parallax Adjustment (10m to infinity). Wide Angle (With extremely forgiving eye-box & among the best eye-relief in class). Waterproof, moisture-proof, nitrogen filled. £1200 Posted (RMSD).
  5. Hi caberslash. Good shooting & a nice write up of a great competition. (During which I suspect we suffered alongside one another crawling around on the final day's 3k fizz (before squarely nailing the baddies (in the most valuable manner possible... ))) I look forward reading about the rest of your comp...

  8. Understood. I'd thought, perhaps incorrectly, that you'd missed in the VCR that there exists a prescriptive distinction in law between primed empty cases and live assembled ammunition. (Made fuller in consideration of Chapter 2: Definition & Classification of Firearms & Ammunition (Ch 2.11), in the Home Office Guide on Firearms Licensing Law (Dec21)). In summary, I think it's safe to conclude that from the numerous legal perspectives mentioned in this thread, that primed empty cases are not ammunition for the purposes of any of the relevant Acts.
  9. To be fair, Laurie, the VCR does mention it (primed empty cases), and that they are grouped similarly with primers. By omission therefore, because it is otherwise prescriptive about primers and primed empty cases, it implies a separate legal distinction for live assembled ammunition. I'm therefore 100% sure you're right that the legal position clarified by HO lawyers referred to back in the day still prevails today, and my batches of primed empty cases will continue to stay on shelves in my reloading room...
  10. This is correct. We can infer this conclusively from Section 35 of the Violent Crime Reduction Act (handy given it's shown above), because both a primer and a primed (otherwise empty) case are both grouped together in the Act with no further distinction or qualification; and therefore neither can be considered live assembled ammunition as we understand it in terms of the 1968 Act, the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988 (i.e. that which would only be made legally held by virtue of the slots on our FACs). To view it another way; it must follow that because as we all instinctively and correctly know that a primer (of any given flavour) is clearly "NOT" live assembled ammunition, then neither can be a primed (otherwise empty) case (of any given flavour).
  11. ERA-TAC 34mm, 0-70MOA Adjustable Mount. I have this default set at 40MOA, and with this March 5-40x56 scope on max elevation I get 147ELDMs out to a mile with just under 1Mil of hold-over. While cranking it to the full 70MOA and using 4Mils hold-over gets me all the way to 2km... 👍👍
  12. Please chalk up another here very interested in a UK ELR series. I've a build nearing completion that should be reasonable for the task and I'll keep an eye out here for developments... 👍
  13. No worries. I guess with your particular eye issue, trying before you buy is going to be key to a successful choice. But I'll still second the shouts for March & Delta in this thread. My March 5x-40x56 in particular focuses nearest of all my scopes on max mag (at just 6m, measured just now), while my Delta Stryker Target Ultra ED 5-50x56 HD (the latest 0.05Mil, Locking Turrets model) has the best & clearest sight picture I've (i.e. for me & my eyes) yet seen through any high-end scope... and I've looked through a few (though for our subject purposes, I've just measured its nearest focus and it only matches the Hawke, at about 9m). Anyway, cheers & good luck with your search.
  14. I wonder which 10-50x Hawke you're using? Out of interest over your comments, and because they don't ring true with my experiences, I've just had a wee go of my Hawke Sidewinder ED 10-50x60 to check out its close focus abilities. As I seemed to remember, even on 50x it focuses a good bit nearer than your Hawke... all the way down to 9 metres on 50x, in fact (measured just now). Mine's on a Sako Quad in both .22LR & .17HMR, and I use it anywhere between 25 & about 300 metres. It's proved to be a great scope for everything I do (and was actually brilliant when I had a go with the .22 at 50 metre Benchrest a year or two back). I notice, like me, you're in NE Scotland, so you're more than welcome to drop by sometime to compare performance, especially if yours is still in warranty.
  15. 147 ELDMs over 46.9gr RS70 in Lapua SRP brass & going at 2810fps. Took these, along with my A1 to Eskdalemuir a few years ago for my first pop at a mile, and they were quite the thing... Dialled to known DOPE and the 7mph L-R wind at 950m, and they were spot on. Then dialled (using my own custom drag-curve in Strelok Pro) straight to the Mile Target (actually just over a mile, at 1640m, it's a 1.5m gong with a 450mm Red Centre Bull). Anyway, big moment... a wee crowd had actually gathered to look in... others interestedly spotting from their rifles at the other benches... 1st round went 1 target Low & Right... while after a click or two's correction, the 2nd hit at 8 o'clock, 50mm inside the Red :)) So that was a Mile... Second Shot... Bull... Spotters were laughing... :))) Ok, so, follow up wasn't so great... where the next 13 rounds yielded 2 further hits on the outer, while the rest peppered within 2 meters of the Target in the slightly choppy wind and the elevation loss stringing (which I now know affects the rifle from about round 8 onwards when it's in my preferred configuration... i.e. wearing its big Wildcat Mod). In summary, when coupled with the right rifle, bullet and load, a mile is child's play for 6.5CM... 😉
  16. If anyone here is still interested in acquiring a few 6.5mm Flatlines, I have some for sale here... http://ukvarminting.com/topic/46695-65mm-121gr-warner-tool-flatline-bullets/ Cheers.
  17. Here are 120 of these 6.5mm 121gr Warner Tool Flatline Bullets. (See https://www.warner-tool.com/product/6-5-mm-121gr/ for product info.) There are 2 complete boxes of 50 and 20 loose. I initially had 200 of these for a 6.5 dabble in ELR, but now I'm going over to bigger calibres for a new ELR project the rest are surplus to requirements and they are far to good and expensive to never be used. All 120 for £150 posted.
  18. Hi Lubo, Quick line just to say the machine has arrived safely and I've already used it to perfectly anneal one hundred Creedmoor cases. All in about 20 minutes. Which is flipping brilliant... ??? Many thanks again... Cheers, Paul
