REMINGTON PRIMERS

It's small rifle primers that are in short supply, apparently......... Pete -
Neck Tension ?
Re-Pete replied to Ralpharama's topic in Target Shooting & Informal Long Range Shooting Practice
I find the gas fired job sold by "raptor calls" works very well, and appears to give consistent tension, judged subjectively by feeling the resistance when seating bullets. Annealing also prolongs case life........I bought mine after suffering a spate of split necks. Not had a problem since, and I'm getting 20+ firings from Lapua brass. And I was told by a successful competitive shooter 9 or 10 years ago that consistent neck tension has more effect on group size than weighing powder to a tenth of a grain...... Pete -
OK, update.....be VERY careful when reading the webpages. The Shoot-n-c targets arrived, but there was only 1 packet of 25. The word "piece" is apparently used to mean 1 target, or 1 packet of 25 or 50....... And I got an email telling me that this is a partial shipment..........🤪 Pete

So far so good.....a 2Tb USB 3.0 flashdrive for £4.39, delivered in 14 days. (And it works) Still waiting for the targets, though... Pete

Next shoot, I'm taking an old foam filled armchair seat cushion to try exactly that...........constantly getting up and down off the mat also causes me considerable discomfort, to say the least. I think maybe just a bit of support under the midriff might suffice. Pete

Are they a reliable source of watches? They haven't listed the same model, but I just spotted another Tag that I could live with 🤪 Pete

I scored this on ebay a while back. I think it's genuine. The innards look kosher, and it gains around 2 seconds a week, so they probably are. Best of all, it's a sensible diameter and thickness. Pete Pete

And then read Scotcheggs' post at the top of "Wanted" first....... Pete

Having read that piece, Laurie, I think I'll try the KVB-223 Standard primers (brass coloured cup) in my 6BR at an MV around 2600 fps, using RS 62. (I have around 900 left). Pete

I punted on 1250 8" self adhesive shoot-n-c targets for 0.9p apiece......I'm not holding my breath......! (And if they do turn up, I'm not going to put 'em up on ebay for £4 for 10 🤣 ) With my big fat 80X spotting scope, they'll be good for 600yds self-marking. Pete

Anyone used this site for buying stuff? Any problems with transactions, shipping etc.? Pete

I had a look at that....what's the point of the "crush control" ? An added complication to justify a higher price? Surely all that's needed is to be able to feel when the rim of the primer cup hits the bottom of the pocket. At that point, the anvil is, by design, at the optimum position to allow the percussion of the firing pin denting the cup to ignite the charge. Squeeze any harder when priming, and you'll likely distort the cup, forcing the anvil to push gently through the compound and touch the inside surface of the cup, thus killing the primer........or it'll go bang. Question about another well known ‘fullbore’ forum website
Re-Pete replied to Greengrunt's topic in General Discussion
Most people have their "funny ways".....thing is, not to take this "soshul meedja" malarkey too seriously. There's stuff to be learnt from every shooter..... (including what NOT to do.....) Pete -
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced trailcam? My cheap and cheerful CamPak T45 has just given up the ghost. I plan to get inside and try a repair, but I'd like to get another different one meantime. I'm looking for HD resolution, and ability to be powered from a remote USB power pack. Pete

Question about another well known ‘fullbore’ forum website
Re-Pete replied to Greengrunt's topic in General Discussion
Now I wonder who that could be? 🤣🤣🤣 Pete -
I use BR4, 450, and Remington 7 1/2 in mine, and I shoot the heavier bullets, 73 to 80.5 grains at velocities up to 900m/s . Russian KVB-223M were the best "bangs for buck" primerwise, but no doubt thanks to Gollum, no longer available. Pete
-
.223 is a fairly high pressure cartridge, and it's just possible that a standard primer will pop and burn the bolt face........I speak from experience, having once mixed up some spilt KVB Magnum and Standard primers. My 223 still bears the scars... Pete
-
Mine's been going strong since they first came out...........gotta be three or four years, possibly more. I have several "magazines" for it so replenishing primers take seconds. Pete

This: https://www.reloading.co.uk/lee-autobenchprime.html This is the best I found for ease and speed of use..............of course, it's a Lee, so the reloading cognoscenti might roll their eyes..... Pete
