Hi all

i have the chance of picking up a Mannlicher-Shoenauer M1903 6.5 x 54 stuzen the owner has sadly past away and stored the bolt out of harms way, needless to say it,s gone forever now  So would ANYONE know anywhere that may have spare parts for the above rifle or even know someone who has one that i could take measrments from the bolt as to build one up from scratch!! This is a classic stalking rifle which is in near perfect conditon complete with leather motor case and scope!!! It would be a real shame for it to get scrapped.

indeed a classic stalking rifle of which there are many good examples around,,,,,

There are companies who will make custom bolts (Pacific Tool Co) in the states make them for Remingtons and I hazzard a guess that certain gunsmiths in the UK would also be able to fabricate one from tool steel (or whatever grade is compatable with the MS reciever)

As I recall the MS is a two lug bolt with blade type extractor, with the bolt handle half (1/3rd) down the bolt body. It really will be a specialist task to make up this piece from scratch, measuring the bolt diameter and lug dimensions may not be "that" difficult to someone with experience (not me) but I guess that fabricating the sear and firing pin correctly and getting the rifle working safely again would be a costly excercise.

It may even be that the barrel would have to come off to measure the bolt lug daimeter - are they pressed in - in which case its a biiig job.

Possibly more than the rifles worth - I guess and its a ball park figure of £200 - £500 for the job when the rifle may not be worth much more than that - agreed a great shame - is there no chance of locating the bolt?

It may be an idea to contact Manlicher in Germany to see if they can assist?

I have a friend (yes I have!) who has a similar rifle, if you need ball park dimensions it can be arranged to be measured, but i'm sure that youre rifle will be different.

Paul indeed it is the same as that but in way better nik

Andy i know what you are saying but its just an machineing job, the bolt is generic with the M1903 model and am told the later M1915 of which some parts are avalible, its the bolt body that would help the job along if i could find one.I have two machine shops that do alot of work for me,that with drawings could quit easy turn me up the parts.I can soon turn up some go/no go gauges to try with another bolt to see were we are at with head space, etc and if thats good we are away :o The barrel is threaded so no big deal there.

Apart from messing with that i have drawn an action based on a Sako reciever but with a 2 lug bolt configuration useing Sako bolt parts. These are away getting quoted as we speak.

Also been busy playing with designs for 2 mods 1 is an alloy .17hmr specific mod which sleeves back over the barrel but reemed to only 5mm to help with noise as all the others i have played with are .22 size mods (6.20mm),the other a full bore mod simler sort of dims as an Atec BUT useing tugsten plated baffles and main body made from incernel but thats for another day :o
