AI .308 moderator performance

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to get a moderator for my AI and am considering the AI moderator and tactical brake combination. I know that their .308 version has the same bore diameter as their .338 and am wondering how much difference this will make to the sound reduction performance. AI decline to provide any figures on the measured sound reduction.

Does anyone have first hand experince of the AI .308 moderator performance, is it effective and how does it compare with other makes such as the ASE SL7i or similar?

Thanks.

The AI moderator works perfectly well on a .308. I also use mine on my 6.5's with no problem.

I have an SL7 for my .338, and its difficult to tell, but there is very little difference to my ear [ under muffs ]

The AI mod, when fitted over the brake, doesn't move the POI on any of my AI rifles, which is a huge bonus.

cant really compare on an AX as ive only used the AI one on 308 and 6.6 cm  but its quiter than my 308 Howa with an ASE on it and as Dave said it doesnt affect the aim point (mind you im not that good ) . Comes apart easy to clean as well ..

In all the moderator tests that I have seen and been present at, baffle size in relation to calibre makes the biggest impact to sound suppression. If you are after the quietest moderator, you need to get a calibre specific moderator. There’s probably a good reason why AI aren’t forthcoming with the information you have asked for.
