At long last the  pigeon general licence has now been added

But no Feral Pigeon. The licence application on NE website last week covered Pigeon (both Wood and Feral) but didn't work when I tried to fill it out! Duh!!

I believe the licence for feral pigeon will be added very shortly, the distribution of the new general licences are being prioritised. 

I also see the new Woodpigeon General Licence effectively ends paid pigeon shooting days . So no more pigeon guides.

(x) Woodpigeons killed or taken under this licence may be eaten and in accordance with government policy IMPORTANT: this licence does not permit the killing of woodpigeons solely for commercial and / or recreational purposes, and only activities conducted in accordance with this licence are authorised. If there is evidence that this licence is being used inappropriately then Natural England may review this licence.

With reference to Feral pigeons, would I have to apply each time any jobs comes in for removal of pigeons if all other options are not viable.

Your going to have to wait for the appropriate licence to be posted . OR  apply for an individual licence to cover you for a specific job .

Its becoming very clear that this is going to be the new “ Norm “  so we’re all going to have get used to the new way of things . Shooting and general country side orgs have already stated there not being allowed to give a great deal of input, if any .

It's useless, like the crow licence it isn't fit for purpose. Effectively a well worded trap for shooters, perfect for any anti that wishes to call the Police when they hear or see shooting.

Use some imagination.

"We tried shooting to move them on, but they just move to another crop that they seriously damaged and then return here in a couple of days."

"We put a scarecrow out and they just ignored it".

Do it once and refer to it forever. Or "collaborate" so a load of you do it once, fail to find an effective measure then refer to that forever.

I thought there always was a requirement that all non lethal methods had to be tried before shooting, so what's changed

Try reading the document.

You are not required to demonstrate any of these. You are required to demonstrate the protective measures in Table 1. They are all about Scaring and Deterrents.

The relevant bit in Table 1 is also :

• Scaring and lethal shooting (under licence) typically work best if they are linked and woodpigeons associate deterrents with lethal control and vice versa.

So, "we are using lethal shooting as part of our overall crop protection strategy Officer as recommended in Table 1 of the General Licence"

All your crap above is dismissed by mentioning that you Risk Assessed it and not only is it highly impractical but potentially dangerous and therefore you are not required to attempt any of it to comply with the Licence.

You should be on top of this anyway.

I see the Canada licence has been issued, they can only be controlled to preserve pubic health or safety.  So off limits if they are trashing meadows!!

I've just read it and it looks like you can still shoot Canada's in season, and outside of season where there is a public health or safety risk,which is defined as harm from aggressive behaviour or pathogens transmitted by goose crap, and geese crap in meadows and in around crops, so anywhere there's a footpath the public can walk, slipping on goose shite is a hazard!!!
