Recommend someone/where to shoot long range reactive targets

Recommended Posts

Me and a mate fancy a days longrange shooting probably with tuition.

Looking for something little more formal and beyond the limitations of my own ground.

I know of a couple of options but looking for peoples recommendations.

Where?

Who ?

Value for money?

Thanks.

Orion in mid Wales

Thanks.

Have you been, any feedback?

I'm considering them and WMS but looking for people's experiences before I take a 6hr drive to Wales.

Tiffs practice days at the roundhouse are very good.

Roundhouse looks good.

I get the impression there are only a few per year but I may be wrong.

I will email Tiff.

Thanks

I was surprised at the prices at Orion...............

Myself and three mates can shoot for a day (7 hours) at Bisley using electronic targets up to 1000 yds on a Tuesday for £74 currently.

I have been to both a number of times and find them both very good.  I used WMS for one to one training when I started and have been to orien a few time to put rounds down at long range and gather data for my rifle.

Both places very enjoyable and friendly staff.   They have targets out a long way, we were shooting steel targets and clay pigeons at 900m last time I was at Orien and steel out further at both

If we ever get back on to Salisbury Plain after this nonsensical attempt to ban 50 cals then joining FCSA or Offas Dyke will give you access to steels and reactives out to nearly a mile.

I'm just back for the night to catch up with emails etc, after a few days maintenance at The Roundhouse.  The weekends storm knocked out the local mast, so only just seen this thread...

The Roundhouse Rifle Challenge 'RRC' is my seasonal flagship event.  I do however have clients for training most weeks, with a variety of 1-1 days, through to clubs and other groups or organisations booking the facilities.

I am around most of the time on 07581 325328 for further details (except during IWA latter half of this week).

Hopefully speak soon,

Tiff

Thanks Tiff.

Sounds promising. I'll email or call tomorrow.

Look at Offas Dyke long range club.

Reactive targets at the Brecon MOD ranges (amongst others) and plenty of long range opportunities such as Warminster 900m as well as extended ranges out to a mile (Brecons again).  Long trip from anywhere but mid-wales but well worth it for a great days shooting in scenery that Bisley can't hope to match.  Plenty of experienced friendly shooters (a few ex military too) on hand to provide hints and tips without having to shell out loads.  Annual membership is very reasonable and you could get a year's shooting around England and Wales including your ammo costs for probably less than a day's costs at some of the more specialised commercial ranges.  Depends what you're after though.  For 1-2-1 and explicit LR training you may get a club member give up some time (most are very capable and experienced) but you may prefer dedicated 1-2-1 with  all facilities to hand in which case some of the commercial outfits provide at a cost.

+1 for Offa's,  lots of experienced people and a friendly bunch.

Thanks guys for all the info. Just what I was asking for.

I have a couple of good options now, just need to sort timing and family commitments.

Another +1 for ODRC...great club, nice members and just good old relaxed fun & pi$$ taking.

Also don't forget we shoot at Rogiet Moor, a lovely 600m MOD range located by Severn Tunnel junction, opposite the old M4 bridge tolls (in process of being dismantled). Rogiet is a lovely range and due to the winds off the estuary, provides good opportunities to practice reading the wind.

I'm also an ODRC member.  Great bunch of people.   Rogiet Moor booked for this weekend.  I'm lucky with it being about half an hour from home but I've also shot with them at Sennybridge and Warminster.

I'd love to be there and stretch the legs of the new rifle, but awaiting a trip to the Barry tunnel to finish my OCW testing.

The only negative of the ODRC ranges is a lack of a 100m range for sighting and load Dev. 600m is the shortest range and isn't the best for developing loads from new. I'd never know if it were the load, the wind or the squiffy eyes behind the scope. 😆

ODRC shoot at Kingbury, which I believe is just to the north of Birmingham.  It's not a site I've been to but I believe they shoot at 300m and 600m there which might be of some help.  Also, every time I've shot at Warminster with them, there have been one or two people zeroing at 200m whilst others are completing their HME tests.  You'd need to be reasonably quick but it might give another zeroing option.
