brown dog
Aiming to make a no-splash (well, minimal lead dust) .22 gong. Just tied a monkey-fist out of some dyneema rope given to me by Terryh. 'Gong' is about 4" diameter. Rather pleased so far - shooting result later! Paul Cat
I'm intrigued, how does it work? Does the bullet not penetrate?
brown dog
I didn't fully tighten the fist on this one, thinking that if left a bit springy, it would better absorb impact. At 50m, it's taken about 50 hits so far (I'm playing with open sights). The looseness gives a nice 'thwack' sound and it jumps well, but settles quickly. Damage to the gong so far seems to be about the same as trying to unpick the fist with a few jabs of a blunt knitting needle. It's now no longer a neat knot but still a solid gong mass. Haven't tried retightening the knot as one face had still-wet yellow spray paint on it!
